Sweet 78. They look great with a solo seat and shorter bars.

Yes! Exactly what I was thinking, definitely some drag bars and a solo seat set up. I'm not too much of a fan of how much larger the tank is, I'm almost wondering if the 75-77 tanks could also go on it to replace it, I don't really care for the extra gauges either.

Re: Dark GreenWing 1977
A lot of people don't like the gauges... I don't know why. I like knowing my engine temp, fuel level, and voltage -- especially on long rides. If there were gauges for oil pressure and intake manifold pressure, I'd want to know that too. I saw someone eliminate the gauges and strip/paint the center console (instead of the black vinyl covering)... seemed like a lot of work but turned out nice. I like the big 78/79 faux tank too... reminds me of a BMW or the old 60's Hondas with the toaster tanks. I just wish it actually held extra gas for longer trips :D

Oh nice! Yeah, you weren't kidding, that is a beautiful bike. I want to get my 77 done first, but this one is still in such good condition, it's going to be hard for me not to do something with it!

Yeah, I'm with you on the tank and gauges. The '78-'79 machines I really like the lines on the best and its all in the tank. Now, if only those years had come with the 11 spoke cast wheels of the '83, I'd be set...warhead_71 wrote:A lot of people don't like the gauges... I don't know why. I don't know about the wheels--I have 83 wheels on the orange bike and like them but the original 78s are nice too, just look at the photo, the 83 wheels look a lot heavier.

Re: Dark GreenWing 1977
I have always been partial to the Comstar wheels, They are so unique to Honda and an era of motorcycle history. I think I get as many questions and comments about the wheels as anything else on the bike.

Re: Dark GreenWing 1977
I love spoked rims, but you guys are right, the comstar rims are unique on their own. I think I'll be keeping rims, but I guess my issues with the gauges are I like simplification as much as possible. I guess that's why I like the naked goldwings so much to begin with. If I could, I would probably only keep the fuel gauge (for obvious reasons) and just move it to another location. Does anyone know if a '77 tank could fit on the 78 frame??

I know, here's a '78 with them. I love how stocky it looks, like a bulldog.robin1731 wrote: That can and has been done..
Exactly! I think they match the big hulking tank better. Don't get me wrong I like my comstars, but from certain angles when I look at my bike I find myself wishing for a fatter wheel and tire.Easter wrote:I don't know about the wheels--I have 83 wheels on the orange bike and like them but the original 78s are nice too, just look at the photo, the 83 wheels look a lot heavier.
OK, thread jack over...

I know what you mean here is my orange bike and if I can find a photo my red bike with 90s vintage CB1000 front end.
Apparently I did not post any images after the seat was finished.

How does that front end handle? Looks great. I don't remember seeing or reading about that one.
Whatever I suggest here should be given ample time for a moderator to delicately correct. I apologize in advance.

Sorry, didn't mean to interrupt but you were talking about larger front wheels and tires. Just meant to show the 83 wheels installed on my bike and another option for even wider wheels.
