I had no idea! That is HUGELY helpful to know, the Kickstarterhas been the only thing really making me not LOVE the 1978 engine. Thanks for the info Eric!

I haven't done it, so maybe a search will pull up details that will be helpful.
Whatever I suggest here should be given ample time for a moderator to delicately correct. I apologize in advance.

Hey everyone! Little progress moving along here, but any progress is good progress! I found a guy on craigslist who was selling a seat that was custom made for him, but turned out to be too big for his cb550. Luckily the goldwing is a BIG bike! I made the deal, brought the seat back to see how it fit and it is near perfect fit!

That seat looks like it was made for your GL. Are you planning to add a rear fender or go without?

Hey Everyone! Long Time, no posts! Just wanted to show what I got done yesterday..

I have the solo seat, but I just needed to secure it to a seat pan properly. I decided to do some at-home welding and make some bracing for the rear of it, so I did some card board cut outs to get general measurements. The only thing I forgot to anticipate was the rise of the seatthe further it goes back.

Here was the genereal process:

THEN I BEGAN WELDING ONTO A STOCK SEAT PAN

As you can see, I made bracers for each little panel to make sure they're sturdy.

Then I welded on small little 2 inch squares to the bracers and then welded on the nuts that the bolts will connect to.

And then I connected the bolts and it was a pretty clean fit! I will be adding some irrigation tubing to the welded ribs to pad the metal and dampen any shaking, then a little 3 inch long piece of square tubing to secure the front, fresh paint and it'll be all good!

Not the prettiest thing, but it will all be covered anyways!

Looks good, using those bolts?

Some stainless pan-heads would look pretty good.

Thank you GoWing! I've been slow at it, but it is coming along. Unfortunately when I mounted the seat to the bike, it seems to be sitting a bit too high for my taste; so another round of fabrication starts!

It is time for me to start thinking about headlights, and I was wondering about some of your inputs on what would work..

I'm not trying to spend too heavy on a headlight set, but these seemed to be in a nice simple middle ground. Wondering which ones you guys think would work best, or if you guys have any personal experience with these change outs.

Here are my two options I am thinking about (Links Provided):

OR

Both seem good to me, but I am curious for some input!

Here's my first impressions.
From both Amazon listings:

The first light assembly ships with an H4 35w bulb. The lens is PC. I suppose that is Polycarbonate? Perhaps the $19 price reflects that a higher watts bulb would damage (melt?) the lens. Plastic bucket, too.

The second light assembly ships with an H4 55/60w bulb. No mention of lens material, but I'd have to believe it isn't PC.
Has a Metal bucket.$59.

Yeah, the first was defenitely the "eh" one. Any suggestions on an aftermarket headlight? Im at least trying to get the back end of it to be black and not all chrome...
