79 Tracker Project
So I'm pretty new here but here is my second project bike it is a 79 GL1000 with bags and a Vetter ss fairing and my goal is to turn it into a tracker style bike bags are frozen to the rack and my helmet keepers are frozen but other than that she works great first I have to mess with the front brakes and do timing belts and only 34k on her and someone put Jardine pipes on her too

Now you're talking! '78-'79s are cool. Then again, I might be a little biased.

That looks like some Samsonite luggage bags on her. I could see a gorilla jump on those, no harm done. Nice bike though.

Re: 79 Tracker Project
Looks like a good, solid bike to start with. I'm playing with a '78 myself, but too many summer projects have taken over. I'll be curious to see what you come up with...

"If you can't take the time to do it right the first time, how are you ever going to find the time to do it over?" -Unknown
Current Rides:
'Grumpy' - '81 Standard, now fully dressed.
'Layla' - '81 Standard w/dealer installed fairing and Hondaline bags.
'Scarlett' '76 'Survivor' nekkid as a j-bird!
Under Construction:
The 'Jalopy' '78-'79 Mash-up
'Quikie' '81 gl1100I back on the lift, project with the step-son!
In The Shed:
'81 gl1100I barn find aka "Josie, the farmer's daughter." (almost comatose build)
'77 gl1000, roller parts bike.
'82 gl1100I, 'Old Crusty' titled roller parts bike (free!)
'82 gl1100I, My first 'Wing, and an expensive lesson!

Yeah they are old hondaline bags kinda neat but serve no purpose in my build along with the vetter fairing

Don't throw them away, plenty of folks have built stripped down bikes on this site only to install bags later on for practical purposes.SovietMike wrote:TNTbefree wrote:That looks like some Samsonite luggage bags on her. I could see a gorilla jump on those, no harm done. Nice bike though.

Re: 79 Tracker Project
The bags are frozen to the frame any idea on how to unlock them without breaking the lock or the key?

This is where that gorilla I was talking about would come in handy.SovietMike wrote:The bags are frozen to the frame any idea on how to unlock them without breaking the lock or the key?

Re: 79 Tracker Project
Sagebrush is completely correct, we strip them down, make them good, then we plan trips to ride them far and meet up we soon realize that some form of luggage carrying device is needed... even if it's just for beer!
Keep the bags when and if you eventually get them off!
cheers

Re: 79 Tracker Project
Your bike but I would have made the tail/brake lights also the turn signals. As is it may make it a bit difficult for someone to see the turn signals when the brake lights are on. At least looking at them in the pics.
