I would imagine it would be just getting a tire that is below 140. 90 is for the width of the tire, 16 for the rim size, but the 140 is for how large the tire is from the rim. Good luck and keep us posted!

90 is the hight of the tyre as a ratio of the width

Several manufacturers list the 150/80-16, including Dunlop, Kenda, and Shinko. Whether or not it will fit without some modification to the swing arm is the next question...

140 is widht in cm 90 is 90% of width= in this case 140*0,9=126cm. 16 is rim diameter ( inner dimeter of tyres)

So instead of a 140/90 you are looking for a 140/80 or even a 130/80 profile. First number is the tread width. Second number is the aspect ratio. a 140/90 is 140mm wide and the sidewall is 90% of 140mm. A 130/80 is 130 mm wide and the sidewall is 80% of that.

140/90 has a 126mm high sidewall
140/70 has a 98mm high sidewall

Metzeler makes a 140/70 16 but I have not seen a 140/80

Ok, I found a 130/70/16. This is narrower and going on a rim made for a 140, what are the effects of fitting this tyre?

I do not know how wide the interstate rims are but on a stock 1000 rim I would be hesitant to go narrower and shorter at the same time esp on a tubeless application. If the stock manufacturer size is 140/90 I would be comfortable with reducing one of those numbers but not both. There are fitment charts out there that will tell you the safe sizes you can use but you need the rim size first.
