A lot of the Chinese stuff is certainly lacking in directions. Some have a switch somewhere to choose two or four cylinders?? If not, would tapping into the second coil wire be possible to get the proper count? Or would that allow misfires at the coils?
Whatever I suggest here should be given ample time for a moderator to delicately correct. I apologize in advance.

Actually this one had good instructions, I just overlooked them in the package until I had already tried a couple of other combinations. This does have a switch but it is for 4,6,8 cylinders, and at each higher setting the reading is lower. I was hoping some member with electronic knowledge would chime in with a solution. You might be on to something though, if I installed diodes on both sides of a splitter wire to keep the signal from back feeding. ??? I might try that after I get it back together.

The O-rings and gasket for the trans cover arrived a few days ago and it is back together, no leaks so far. Still getting some smoke out of the right exhaust after the engine gets warm. Not sure what that is about. The number 4 cylinder (left head) was reading low on compression so I would have expected a bit of smoke from that side.

Following Ericheath's suggestion, I made up a "y" cord with diodes in each side of the Y and connected these to the two coils, now I am able to get a "correct" reading from the tach when set for four cylinders. That is because each coil fires twice per revolution thus the tach can read the impulses as if they were coming from a distributor that would fire four times for four cylinders. The diodes prevent the trigger signal from one of the coils back-feeding to the other coil, thus screwing up the ignition timing.

I have ordered some parts to construct a set of "rear set" controls. Until I am able to make those work, I can't really do any serious riding of this bike. I am still concerned about the engine, but as it runs OK on the table, I will have to wait to get it on the road before I know if it will be satisfactory or if I will have to replace the engine.

It will be interesting to see if the diodes last.

They were removed from a GL harness at some point so should be heavy-duty, but the thought crossed my mind.

Things have been moving slowly here, travel, weather, laziness, etc. but I have spent a good deal of time trying to work out the engineering for my rear set controls. (hours sitting on my work stool pondering in the pose of Rodin's Thinker) I believe I have a solution now for the brake side, it looks a bit like Darrel and his brother Darrel did the engineering but as near as I can tell without a test ride, it seems to work.Tomorrow I plan to start the shifter side. I will have the hardware powder coated in gloss black to match the pegs and maybe it will look better. Once I get the rear sets sorted the bike will be essentially finished. But as I have mentioned a couple of times, I still don't have great confidence in the engine so only riding will answer that question.

Wow you moved the pegs back quite a ways! Feel okay sitting on the bike?

I am liking this thing more and more every time you post. I like what you're doing with the rear sets, and think after you put the brackets on a diet that will work out very well.

... But I do take one thing: :IDTS:
Darrel and his brother Darrel
Since my name is actually Darrell, I would think you're in good hands! :-D

No offense Darrel, I hope everyone gets the reference to the old TV comedy.
Eric, I think it sits well, certainly doesn't feel like the pegs are too far back.

Lol. No offense taken. I wish I had a buck for every time somebody asked me where my other brother was, though!

Multi-part question - have you checked that the pegs won't limit lean angle since they don't look to be folding type, how do you plan to work the exhaust around them, and have you checked that your knees won't hit the valve covers when leaned over like that?

To the extent possible while on the table but I don't forsee a problem.
Stock headers pass behind them with no interference.

Looks just from the various pics that the case guards might ground first .... .... might be worth having some sort of flexible 'feeler' somewhere to warn you not to drag any hard bits ??
