Custom Seat

So today I decided to get started on a custom seat. The reason for this project is the seats I've seen for the old Goldwing all rise at the back and are as wide at the tail as they are at the tank, none of them follow the frame of the bike.

I started out with a 3mm piece of Perspex and I'll put some fibreglass over the top to give it some strength and to tidy it all up.

The reason for the Perspex is that it's super easy the heat up and bend into shape as well as to cut and drill. I'll cut a piece of 9mm mdf timber and use some foam and vinyl to make the actual seat nice and flat like a tracker/scrambler seat.

I'll add some more photos as I go over the next couple weeks.

I haven't spent much time on it over the past week but here's an update.

I needed to cut the Perspex to get it to shape to the frame and it was much easier to bend the edges in two halves, I didn't mention that in the first post.
I used some fibreglass filler to shape those parts and fill the gap between the cut.

I then started the fibreglass and it's my first time using it, man that stuff is sticky lol. I used a full sheet the first run and I folded over the edges and it was a bad idea to much to work with, I ended up with bubbles everywhere and in the end I sanded most of what I put on over the edges off. I would definitely recommend using smaller pieces, which is what I done on the second run.

Looks like a good solution to getting the tracker look without having to modify the frame for the seat. And the ability to swap back to stork, of course.

Looks like a pretty good start! Be cool to see what it looks like in the end.

That's it Bigscheaf... one thing with this build is that anything I do to this wonderful bike can be changed back to the original Goldwing.

Added some Chrome turn signals and sorted the number plate and tail light.
