Anyone mount a fog light like this?

I saw this online today. I like the look, especially mounted to the crash bar. Anyone do something similar to this? If so, what light and especially what was used as a stable mount?

I was looking at these lights for the new bike. LED with a decent price and the look like they will fit the openings I have. May have to fabricate a bracket but that's ok.

My main concern is the bracketry to attach to the round bar and not make it look too home-made.

I have driving lamps mounted on my crash bars. Simple round pipe clamps. That's all easy enough and a solid mount for many years and miles.

If you're looking to replicate what this fellow has done - apparently bolting directly into the round bar - good luck. I don't see that as being viable over time as it will weaken the bar as well as be difficult as heck to actually implement what with the little material in the crash bar to thread and the need to exactly match the curve of the mounting bracket to the bar. I see a wiggly light unless extensive custom work is implemented. As in a solid crash bar.

I'd prefer not to drill directly into the bar if possible. I assume you are talking about a clamp like this?

I would use the post from the light to tighten the clamp.

Actually something more like this. But there’s a wide range of clamps out there.

That is a much cleaner clamp.

Yeah, but be careful. I just grabbed that image quickly. The clamps I actually used are much wider and stouter in general. I'd worry that those thin ones wouldn't be up to the job.

Here's a link.

Kurykin also makes an expensive version.

I clamp things to round bar all the time! Look at the attachment brackets for Bark Busters. I trust mine when riding in the woods to hit saplings intentionally. Well yeah, maybe I should have said "used to", been a while!

There are simpler and more robust mounts with the cheaper models. Just have to measure the pipe on the guards amd start looking!

So here's the best couple of shots I could find of the set up on my '82 GL1100. The lights are the widely available Cree 3000 LEDs and come with the solid anodized aluminum bracketry that simply bolts around the crash bar, it even had a small rubber gasket to protect the bar coating.

The lights work really well, either as daytime running lights dipped to not dazzle, or driving lights suitably adjusted for night time running.

cheers
Dean

Did that light come with the bracket or did you buy that separately?

my mounts came on my 82. they are made from flat bar wrapped around in a u shape with the "top" leg longer then the bottom one and the end of it is bent at a slight angle.
the lights are spot light in the middle and floods on the end leds.

pay no attention to the bugs. haven't been able to bathe her since I got home from Deadwood.
the round bar mounting brackets didn't come "with" the driving lights, but came in the same order from the same Co. from which I bought the lights.
