Re: 78 GL1000 resto-mod
Here ya go...the headers had to be modified as the ends were not at the right angle. I think exhaust pipes were for a 75 which I bought a few years ago and figured they were cheap enough and NOS. I searched for differences in header years but all I know is my 78's and the 77's I had were not fitting properly. I have to tone down the gold horns..The Tripple was made by a guy in Illinois who does Harley Trike tripples, they are beefy and I'm happy with them though I had to send back as the anodizing was horrible but he made good. Thats it for now..just waiting on fenders!

Re: 78 GL1000 resto-mod
Slow and steady as I have been a bit busy with home projects. My buddy Tom PC'ed a few things for me and rather quick. The front fender was a serious pain in the butt (struts) and working out the tail light configuration gave me headaches I reckon that's part of frustration fun... My seat pan is out for some nice leather but I'm not one to leave aesthetics to other folks. Hopefully when the foam mock-up is done the details will be discussed....hopefully. I really just need brake lines and the dreaded Weber carbs. I would hate to go to plan B as in stock carbs but I'll give it my best shot. I'll be doing some info digging on those...(of course any help would be appreciated obviously I have no idea how to straighten these pics out, sorry I just don't have the patience for this... but you get the idea...

Was your gauge pod always in that good of a condition, or did you refinish it somehow?
The bike is looking great so far! Not to mention the others you have sitting in the background!

Re: 78 GL1000 resto-mod
All most finished with this bike. I was going to use the dual weber set up I have but figured I will test on a mule here and then possibly installing at a later date. I got a bit impatient with the info out there so I went stock.here are a couple of pics..I have to bleed brakes, set ignition and fix a coolant leak, I hope to start next wk end.

Re: 78 GL1000 resto-mod
I'll have to dig a bit for that info. I know it was a guy on thief bay, it was somewhat shaped for the 17" Kawi wheel but was cheap.I believe it is 5" wide. I did have to cut one side..yada yada but it worked out in the end..what do you got going? I just got back from a long trip but will look tomorrow for you.

Re: 78 GL1000 resto-mod
nice ride! my computer died and has caused a whole lot of problems so it's been awhile....I have the Webbers as well but decided to be lazy as I had a rebuilt carb rack on the shelf, maybe next winter. Love the color. I found the seat pan to be a painful slow process. Looks like you succeeded. Any updates?
have a great day!
