I just got my "Sportster" mufflers from the eBay shipper, but they sent me what I think are the same pipes you've put on your project. I've already reached out to the vendor about his error, but since you've spent much time and energy getting things set up in your build, I have a question:

Do you imagine you COULD HAVE bolted those pipes right to the header, worked up a basic bracket, and cleared the raised center stand - all without a transition?

I'm thinking not.

Anything is possible. But I can’t imagine that it would look great if you could accomplish it. I guess the only way to really find out is hold the muffler up there and see what it looks like. Do you own a welder? Auto parts stores stock a variety of prebent exhaust adapters that might do the trick.

No welder. I'm going to haul a header into a parts store and see what might be available for my project. I'm hoping for a clamp-on solution.

I am working on an old Suzie right now. Had to trash the oem mufflers and opted for some sportster slip ons. A local welder charged me $40 to weld on some adapters that I made from steel pipe to the headers. Nothing fancy needed just the welding but he did a great job. If you are looking for prebent/ resizing adapters check out the auto supply place but I do recommend having them welded to the headers then slip on the HD mufflers and clamp them in place. Just my 2 cents worth.

Feels like I've hijacked DUGG's thread here. (Sorry about that.) My local welder said to anticipate about $100 to weld two adapters to the headers. $45 minimum charge, and $50/half hour. He said to expect about an hour of labor. Maybe I need to shop around a bit.

I was a bit surprised that it was only 40 Bux Cdn. but my welder said it took very little effort, time or material. I would ask at least one other shop and if it is relatively the same price as your original quote it may well be due to regional differences. My local guy makes a nice living off of not gouging@!!

That sounds steep if you’re bringing him just the headers and adapters. Really about a fifteen minute job tops. Too bad your not closer. I’d do it for you for a twelve pack of good beer. Which I think you owe me for hijacking my thread 😂

I'll shop around a bit before committing to that welder. I was a little surprised, but what do I know?
