Need ideas

#1

Post by kotkinjs1 »

Hi all, now that I've got my naked 82 'mostly' sorted mechanically and almost back on the road, I need to ask the hive mind for some ideas on saddlebags and support brackets. I've searched through a bazillion photos but couldn't really find any ideas as far as a naked wing with some kind of leather throw over bags. I really like the old school cavalry style and I think those might match the look I'm going for but maybe too big. The problem I've got is that the rear fender I'm using with the seat and rear turn signals don't leave much room. I've tried some crappy eBay Chinese brackets but can't get the geometry right in the space provided. I'm not against relocating turn signals or brake light if I have to.

Any tips on what to fabricate or look for? I just need a bracket to hang down I guess from the two studs (the rear one that the turn signal is off of and the fwd one that the rear seat bracket connects to) to keep any bags off the shock and wheel obviously. The length of the seat is problematic.

P.s. I unfortunately don't weld or know anyone who does.

Any recommendations for smallish type (I guess) leather bags that could fit?

I don't think I have ever seen any off the shelf brackets for that. I am sure something could be adapted but most do fab something up from scratch.

Hello,
I am also currently dealing with the topic.
I found it here: https://www.tenax24.de/index.php?la=en&p=produkte.php
This allows the holder to be attached inconspicuously. The saddlebags can then be attached or dismantled with a single movement. Ok, the saddlebags without the leather connector
I myself am fond of old military backpacks with leather straps.

Greetings
