You can take Rt 52 north out of Fancy Gap and avoid I-77 until you get to I-81 - then there is no choice but to use the slab. Route 52 north of Wytheville is also an awsome road over Big Walker Mountain. There is a look-out tower on top of the mountain, howerver there is a $ charge.

For history buffs, there is a shot tower north of Fancy Gap right off of I-77.

I am beginning to think people do not want business. I looked at the motel at Meadows of Dan.... err... check back in April (btw really BAD business decision to have divisive political emblems all around). Check the campground cabins across the street (thinking maybe with some at motel).... wow that is a lot of people for our bathrooms...

btw, the parkway was closed because of yesterdays storm so over the hump almost to Stuart and then back to Meadows of Dan. Great ride except 58 has a lot of road work that will actually make it a safe highway (albeit, less fun)

TOMORROW, will check Hillsville... getting closer to the back of the dragon!

tomorrow we will check at the Knob Hill in Hillsville. Been through Bland. Just up I77 there is a "a-hole of the dragon" as you enter West Virginia. Lots of good rides...but heck, hard to find boring rides in Appalachia

Big Walker looks good from the air! Is the parking lot fairly level? Don't wamt any old folks dropping their bikes.
Thanks for doing all this scouting work. It is really appreciated. Looking forward to September!!

It looks like we will use the motel 6 at Hillsville, they have a whole group of rooms in the back which would give us an easy place to hang out. The front may have some limited trailer parking, however, we have 2.5 acres in Riner (about 1 hour away) with plenty of room for trailers. Beth will be contacting them so we can get our rooms together.

Knob hill had a lousy driveway and "well our computer can only make reservations one month in advance" I am offering the up to $2000 in business, and they cannot make reservations more than a month in advance.... you can't fix stupid!
