Feeler: Summer Meet in the NC Mountains, Balsam Lake Lodge

Hi all, I just figured I'd post up and see if there's any interest here. There's a local forest service lodge up here in the hills that can sleep 16 people in beds, plus a large number more on couches or in tents. The whole place is $200 per night.

I've done a couple car meets up here, and it's always a blast. You can get 30 people in the place pretty easily. It's quite literally in the middle of nowhere. The closest community is Little Canada, NC, the closest gas station is in Tuckaseegee, and the closest beer is in Cullowhee.

The place has a full kitchen that's barely adequate for 16 people, but I made a giant griddle that goes on top of the outside grill that's great for bacon, eggs, and pancakes in mass quantities.

Image

All bedding/linens are provided, as are cooking utensils, pots, pans, all that stuff.

Now, in order to make it work with 16 people for 2 nights, it's $25 per person. That gets you one bed for two nights. If we wanted to do a 3-night stay, it's $38 per person. There are a couple of available weekends in August...most everything else is already reserved.

Generally, we've handled food separately. $20 per person generally gets you a solid selection of breakfast goods, bbq, burgers, salad, pasta, etc.

For anyone that wants to come beyond the 16 beds, we usually just collect the food fund money from them, and they put up tents or claim couches.

If this is something y'all would like to pursue, let me know.

No, there didn't seem to be enough concrete interest to fill the place. All the weekends are now unavailable...maybe next season.

Yeah .... we got some funny looks for starting to plan our 1000 Islands Fall Ride way early .... but it takes some time to pull things together and people need time to work out the details ....

That would be a great starting point. The best bike museum I've ever been to in Maggie Valley, just an hour north.
Two Wheels Only in Georgia is a couple of hours south on some great roads. I don't know how much of the original TWO there is snce it closed and re-opened sometime later, but it was one of the highlights of my2012 trip.

Wheels Thru Time in Maggie Valley is a stunning place. You will hear 2 or 3 of those old bikes fired up and maybe even ridden around if you stay there long enough.
