Out for a ride

#1

Post by twist it »

Hey all, thought I'd better post my ride so that if y'all can't escape the snow you can live vicariously as I have so many times thru y'all. I left the Oregon coast a couple of weeks ago on my 81 wineberry dresser to visit my big sis in Pensacola, FL. Took the coast route to Morrow Bay and hung a left. What a ride! Staying off the interstates as much as possible proved to be an adventure. Now I'm in Del Rio, TX on my way west and back home. Tomorrow is Big Bend State Park. After that, a visit to Malcom Smith's shop in Riverside,CA. I've seen so much and have met so many great people. To tell the whole story would take pages. The ole girl lost some oil ( I didn't torque bolts enough around the water pump) but otherwise hasn't missed a beat! People love old Goldwings. So many conversations started with people reminiscing as they stared longingly at the sparkling paint from their past. I'll post pics of the trip when I get home. Hang tough everyone and let the adventure of what life brings roll!

Good show. Nothing like a "ride about" to give one prospective. And some wonderful memories

Pics please. And of those out of the way places. I love backroads. Hate superslab. Smelling the roses and all that.

Safe travels!

Big Bend is absolutely beautiful, just know in advance that it is 60-80 miles from the towns of Marathon or Alpine to the gates of the park so fill up your tank before you head down there. Also, please be aware that due to the current gummint funding mess that the Nat'l Park Service has closed a number of resource centers and campgrounds in the Big Bend National Park, but the park itself is still open.

I second the call for the posting of pictures, extra points awarded if you have a roadrunner, tarantula or snake in the shot with your GW, lol!

Be safe and have fun!

First time posting pics so hopefully this works. Toured Big Bend yesterday but due to govt. shutdown no camping, but what a ride. Beautiful. Was met 2hours outside of Alpine just after dark with a cold blast and freezing rain! Made it to a hotel covered in an icy crust. I pulled into a motel wondering just how crazy I am. Then I noticed 3 bikes in the parking lot covered in ice. Met stranded bikers over bfast and heard many stories. One of them, Thunderbird has been living on his R100 for 4 years! Well there's no going anywhere today, walking is a hazard. Time to locate the nearest watering hole and meet up with my fellow refugees, watch a game and talk bikes!
