OK. I guess Richard. Just need a left shoulder and right knee replaced and a few other parts but cant bring myself to taking the time off< That scares me being idle for so long > so living with it for now. Definitly takes away from riding other than to town on rare occasions. Not complaining though im still hanging. Appreciate the inquiry........ Ill let Steve return to his regular scheduled programing. Never knew he got a 1800... jb

Re: 100 hours
Been looking for a while but the actual purchase was just recently.
Yea this getting old thing really sucks. I am quickly learning that Grumpy old men get that way from living a life of constant pain! Maybe we should have listened when they were all telling us to take better care of ourselves.

Re: 100 hours
You could also darkside the rear wheel on the 1800. But you'd have to be serious about it, or have a spare wheel, because that tire won't wear out for 40k miles.

Re: 100 hours
All the maintenance on the 1800 is caught up with the exception of a last minute oil change. New brakes, tires, air filter, plugs, fluids etc etc etc etc.... Went up one size on the rear tire to try and reduce the highway rpm a hair and as a side it corrected the speed O to within 1 mph of the gps. Been riding at least a couple hundred country miles 2 or 3 times a week and have just over 7,000 miles on it now since February, she is ready. Working on fine tuning the route and days of travel. Plan to depart here in 11 days on the 23rd and meet up with rcmatt007 in Blacksburg Va for the ride into Knoxville. First day is easy just over 500 miles. After that they get more serious. Basically 40 west till I get to Gallup NM then 264 to the Canyon Visitor center. Then drop back down to 40 to Kingman and start North West from there. Weather is crazy! Everything from the 30's to the 90's so will be packing heavy. Giving myself 9 days to do 6 days of riding. If the weather is good and my body holds up I will get there early. If not I can hole up for a bit. Really looking forward to this.

Re: 100 hours
It corrected the speedometer error. Now at 70 indicated I am at 70 on the gps most of the time. RPM change is subtle. I am like a half a needle shy of 3,000 rpm at exactly 70 mph. Definitely a little different in handling. Turn in is not quite as quick as it was. I have not checked the odometer but suspect it is closer as well. No noticeable change in MPG. I was really concerned about the ride on ride off stand not being usable but as long as I drop the rear preload to zero it seems to be OK for level ground. The rear tire has sold contact while on center. I changed from Continentals to 888's so there is also some handling differences there. I think I actually liked the Conti's better but too early to say for sure. I took the rear off with just over 6,000 miles on it and it is flat in the middle like a car tire so not sure how much life it has left.
The difference is 2 -2 1/2 inches in height. Kind of scary the first time laying it over

Re: 100 hours
after gallup you might consider a way up to interstate 70. much more scenic and easier riding than interstate 40. Lots of truck traffic thru there on 40. the old route 66. Utah on 70 from green river to salina utah is one of the nicest most scenic roads ive ever been on Just make sure You have fuel.< Dont ask me why i said that>. Maybe thats the return plan. Just My 2 cents... jb

Re: 100 hours
Thanks JB. Yea on the way back I can drop down and pickup I70 in Salina. I was planning on taking US 40 out of salt lake over to colorado and hitting I70 there but that is easy to change.

A word of caution. My son an a friend are on their way back from the southwest. Flagstaff area had rain, hail and snow. Didn't expect that. Weather can be very unpredictable.
