Cabot Trail advance recce report.**video working now**

My better half and I did the cabot trail this weekend.
Some folks here were talking about riding it so I thought I would tease you with a couple of pics, a short video and some suggestions.

If you go, go around it counter clockwise. This will put you on the outside of the road which is where all the pull off spots are. During tourist season attempting to cross the left lane going clockwise could be sketchy.
As you will se in the video..you will get to do some hill climbing complete with switch backs. There are 2 spots on the trail like this..
I would say 90% of the road is in excellent condition for bikes and the spots that are a bit rough you wouldn't be able to drive fast on anyway. The places where you will get in to fifth gear are few.
You can do the trail easily in a day if you don't stop..but the tourist traps are a plenty along the trail.
My suggestion would be to establish a "base camp" and do day trips. Gas stations aren't very plentiful around the top of the trail though.
We are planning a trip for this summer and I think this will be our base camp. the view from them is spectacular.

Here is a video of one of the hill climb sections..which has a brand new coat of asphalt on it.
https://youtu.be/Xv-7T_upD88[/youtube]
I don't want to post to many pics and spoil the view for those that do come up.
Depending on if, when I will gladly go. MY plan for our ride this coming summer is to trailer the bosses and my bike to the cabin. We will be going with another couple so by taking the truck, trailer we can carry all the luggage, tools and we will have a recovery vehicle should a bike go down.

hopefully this works. I had music playing and they blocked it because of "copyright" issues. I could chose to have the video muted which I did but managed to set it to private in the process.

But the photos sure are nice. Wow! I could easily spend some quality time in those environs. Much of that time would be off the road and in the woods - or on the coast.

Great ride around the Cabot Trail. Did it many years ago. Spent quite a few weekends in Baddeck working on the Dunlop Inn back in the early '90s - eating at the Telegraph House, and (volunteer work) helping the owner, one of the Dunlop girls, get it renovated and started - she was a friend of the family. Most of us helping were in the Navy. Seeing a cruise ship come into the harbour was exciting, didn't think something that large could make it. Look forward to more of your riding the Trail.

we stayed at the Inverary Resort. Right down on the shore of the Bra D'or Lakes.
I think next to Halifax Harbour Sydney Harbour is the deepest here.

I think I have heard enough about this "Cabot trail", That it has made my bucket list for next year. I'm pretty sure Rat is in, and maybe it's time for some of the other riders on this side of the border to make a serious ride. Who else is up for the challenge?

that is awesome. I will do anything I can to help.. I was actually thinking about this and decided if you folks come up I would trailer my bike to the "base camp" so we would have a recovery vehicle should someone need it.

Well, no promises at this point. But going to look into it. What is the best time of the year to do it?
