Possible Canadian Run ?

#1

Post by Rat »

CYBORG wrote on the Eastern Run thread ...

"I've been thinking about doing a Canada run with anyone who would like to go, and meet up somewhere with the Canadian folk who might have an interest. Is there a quarantine period for US coming across? Any ideas for a meeting place/event? Just thinking out loud at this point."

I’m wondering about timing, thinking it would need to be very late September or even early October ?

If we picked the location so as to reduce travel time for those Americans interested maybe we could do it ?

Whaddya think folks ?

I like the idea. If I read the regs right, a few hoops to jump thru. I just want to show up at the border, any time, show proof of vaccination, passport, and go about my business. Like the good old days

I believe you need a Covid19 test (not the rapid) within 72 hours of crossing plus your proof of vaccination. I have gone through twice now from Canada to the USA and back. Going down for a weekend was not possible unless you got there early enough to get tested on Friday night. Results in ND were 32-36 hours for results. I believe I read the Canadians now allow you to test in Canada on Friday and go for the weekend getting your results through an APP on your phone.

Double vaxxed or not, as of today, you need to have proof of an acceptable negative Covid test within 72 hours of entry into Canada. The list of tests is accessible in the link below.

From 2006 until 2020 I have commuted in and out of Canada. Border crossings were very routine and my wife and I could pass with minimal effort. I personally think the two countries’ cultures are very similar. Today is a different world. I wonder if it will ever return to the way it was.

We have thought about doing the Cabot trail in 2022... after all, I am retired! but it would probably be early summer as we will be off to the west coast mid September

there is another thread here somewhere discussing the cabot trail. I suggested in that one that if you are going to travel all the way up here to do the trail you should take some extra time to tour the rest of the province.

you can ride the actual cabot trail in a few hours. there is a lot more to see in cape breton and the rest of the province.

Baddeck is a good stop, Telegraph House and the Alexander Graham Bell Historic Site. Sydney is a nice visit. Have to ride the bridge to PEI.

none yet, but I am thinking mid June-ish. We probably would go up to Kennebunk ME to visit (and stay with) a friend. Then cross over at Calais (pronounced "callous") all in all about 1500 miles to get there, probably a little more as we would prefer to miss even getting close to NYC

but still in just the thinking stage
