2023 Polar Bear Ride
The rules are the same as they have always been:
1) Participation in the Polar Bear Ride is open to all forum members.
2) Go for a ride of at least 1hr duration on either Dec. 31 2022 or Jan 1 2023 or both. (I usually head for somewhere that is at least a half hour from home, stop for a meal or to visit someone or something like that and then make sure I take more than half an hour to get back home).
3) Take one or more pics &/or a video and post them in this thread.
4) Click the following link to Piper's Patches where you can order Polar Bear Run patches and year rockers (it looks like he has discontinued the pins)

Not looking too good for this area. Rain is in the forecast for several days starting the 30th. Gonna try to get out on the 29th.

Re: 2023 Polar Bear Ride
Rain forecast here too. It wouldn't be the first time or the last (a few years ago I wondered if it should be called the Rainy Bear Ride instead). Depending on how hard it is coming down I may need to wear the rainsuit instead of the snowmobile suit

Re: 2023 Polar Bear Ride
Well, looks like it’s going to be well above freezing anyway, so shouldn’t be too slippery for those of us who only have two wheels …

Re: 2023 Polar Bear Ride
Got my ride in today and covered all the bases. Now I'm seeing the updated forecast showing partly cloudy and 60 degrees. Darn, I may have to take another ride.

Re: 2023 Polar Bear Ride
Sunday's forecast here looks promising, 40 degrees and light winds. I'll have to reinstall the battery, but not much else to take the 1200 for a ride. Looking forward to it!

Re: 2023 Polar Bear Ride
I really meant to go out but woke that morning with a nasty sinus thing going on. My Balance is not great on normal days so I decided to let the bikes stay parked until this passes.

It was nice here. I took video but after spending about 4 hours editing it down yesterday I had enough of sitting at the computer so I still need to add titles & music.

Re: 2023 Polar Bear Ride
My son and I got out on Sunday afternoon for a fun hour (plus) in roughly 50-degree (f) weather. I rode the GL; he rode my ST1100. (His rides are tucked away for winter.)
It was his first ride in at least a month. I'm on the bike 3-7 days a week.
I should offer up a photo. I didn't take one.
Given the snow and ice - and frigid temps - the week before, there was a lot of sand piled up in some of the danger zones - corners, intersections, etc. But it was a nice day for a ride, especially for January in Maine.

Re: 2023 Polar Bear Ride
I'll admit that I'm cheap so I've been ordering year rockers at a time every 2nd year to save the cost of shipping. This year Piper's only has 2023 rockers and I'm not impressed with $15.26 CAD to ship something that could go in an envelope for letter rate postage.
So I shopped around and found a Canadian source for similar rockers. The colours are different and the dimensions given are different but 2 rockers + tax + shipping came to $5.31. They arrived yesterday. Here are pics of them sitting on the vest (these ones can be ironed on but I think I'll sew them too). They don't match the ones from Piper's (I knew that before I ordered them) but I think they look OK
If you are as cheap as me and want to order the same ones here's the link (enter the year you want in the search)
http://www.e-patchesandcrests.com/ FWIW, I've had occasion to email Steve at Piper's a few times over the years and every time he takes longer to reply and the answers seem like he is a bit confused. Since he changed to selling exclusively through eBay there is less selection than when he maintained his own site too so I have a feeling that he may not be selling patches many more years so we may all be looking for alternate sources eventually.
