More SS pistons

#1

Post by taunusrainer »

Gentlemen, just wanted to let You know that now SS brake caliper pistons are available for most (or all?) GL1500.
The site has moved to http://www.proebstl.net/pistons.html
I am not 100% sure if there were the same brake calipers through all the years from 1988 to 2001, any input on this subject is very welcome.
Possibly the new pistons are also good for GL1200. So please all of You who are currently rebuilding such a caliper, could You please take the sizes of Your pistons and send me an email?
Of course all the members here will get a discount if You should ever need pistons.
Thank You
Ray

Can I say that I used Ray's pistons when I rebuilt the rear caliper on my 1000.

Beautifully made, quick service, discount and about half the price of the ready-to-rust Honda ones.

Fantastic!

1984 GL1200 Standard Brake Piston Dimensions

#6

Post by Kenzie »

I had a friend make some SS pistons for my 1200 last summer.

The dimensions I used are as follows:
Left front caliper - 2 pistons total.
OD = .9988/.9970 in. [25.370/25.324 mm]
length = 1.380 in. [35.05 mm]

Right front and rear calipers - 2 pistons each caliper - 4 pistons total.
OD = 1.2599/1.2581 in. [32.000/31.954 mm]
length = 1.380 in. [35.05 mm]

I held the diameter tolerance slightly tighter than what is listed in the Honda and Clymer manuals that I reference.

They have worked well for the last couple thousand miles.

Kenzie, THAT'S IT what I was lookin for! Great info!
I'll immediately add this to my chart. If you ever need some more pistons for a future rebuild, contact me and You'll get a set for postage.

Seems that now I can cover all wings 1000 to 1500.

Does anyone here own a 1983 GL1100?

I love this place, thank You, Gentlemen!

Ray

Oh, the rectifier regulator boards didn't work, lots of $$$ wasted so far :(
but I'll stick to it with the help of another friend who is more sophisticated on this subject.

My Pleasure and your welcome.

I already bought a set of SS pistons from you for my '78. They have good surface finish, are dimensionally correct and have a very tight circular cross section. That project is still on going. At the time I was expecting to get laid off from work so I was stashing GL parts in anticipation of having lots of time to work on my project and no extra cash to spend. I have collected a small mountain of parts and I still have my job. Meanwhile the 1200 was much closer to getting back on the road. I wish you had come out with the 1200 pistons last July. Your price is considerably more reasonable than what I paid.

I recently acquired an abandoned 82 Interstate that will need SS brake pistons in the future. Pistons for postage? Hell yeah! To me that represents a serious deal that is not to be missed. You can expect to hear from me. Thank you very much.

You may want to post your pistons / kits on the Valkyrie Tech board. The Valkyrie's are newer, but we are starting to find some of them sitting in garages after years of non use just like the wings.

If your pistons for the 1500 are the same as the Valkyrie, you could be into some more sales from them. The Valk board is a close knit bunch just like the Naked Wingers.

Moved to the cross over parts forum so it does not get lost in the tech.

Kenzie, an email and off they go car1
I have added another type9 piston for early 1200, but will not add more as from earlier to later models Honda's part number jungle is getting more and more confusing. It took eternities to find out what pistons for what caliper from 1982 on. I still am not 100% sure about the 1983/1100, I was told they had the same brakes as the 1984/1200s but no way to prove this so far. I will stick to it.
Thank You for all this great help, gentlemen.
And remember: Pistons->Taunusrainer!
