gl1000 muffler - do all horseshoe types interchange?

Post #1 by Ed Fleming » Fri Nov 15, 2013 3:54 pm

Thinking about putting "original" exhaust on my 77 gl1000. I've seen a couple nice 75 through 77 mufflers on ebay. Are the mufflers for the years 75-77 the same? They look identical... Thanks!

.....and the only (cosmetic) difference in the '77 exhaust system is that it came with chrome guards on the exhaust headers. The '75, '76 and '76 LTD did not have them.

I picked up mufflers from a 76. the exhaust headers are hard to find. The 78 exhaust headers are different in the ends as well as the size of them over all. Could one use the 78 exhaust headers (with a little mod) to join them to the 76 mufflers? also would this affect the curve? I
