Re: A CX500 for Christmas
Cold weather, family visits and flu (not me but everyone else in the family, very bad stuff!) and lack of parts have held me up a bit but gradually I am making some headway. Got the O-rings and installed the water pipes and polished and installed the carb intakes. Yesterday I was able to paint the wheels. No tires yet but the wheels need to cure for a while anyway before trying to mount tires. My seat should be here in a few days and I can cut and weld the frame to suit, then I will be able to paint the frame and start reassembly.

Re: A CX500 for Christmas
This bike came in boxes, several of them, and included a lot of stuff that didn't belong (and didn't include somethings that should have been). Since this is my first CX500 it has been a bit of a challenge to decide what belonged and where it was supposed to go.
Here are a couple of examples, do any of you CX fans recognize these? And if so where do they go?

Re: A CX500 for Christmas
Making things fit that weren't designed to fit is always time consuming (and often a lost cause) but I have managed over the last couple of days to adapt the custom seat (a very nice one I think) and the GL1000 rear fender. The frame had to be bobbed and a bit of welding for the mounting brackets but I am happy with the result.

Re: A CX500 for Christmas
Today was a paint day. Frame and swing arm as well as a few misc brackets. I like two part urethane for frame work and was pleased with the way it turned out. I will give it a day or two to harden up then begin the process of putting it together. I still have quite a few parts to order (like tires) and the rear fender needs to be sandblasted before paint. Head covers will be powder coated. I had a color picked out but the tank is gloss black in really nice condition so I will post pone a final decision on body color till I get it back together.

Nice project.
If your ignition shoots craps down the road like mine did, an outfit in Australia named Rae-San Electronics makes a good replacement electronic ignition.

Re: A CX500 for Christmas
I started the reassembly process today. Got the frame back on the motor and the swing arm in place. The radiator is ready to go on as soon as I get some new hoses. I also cleaned up the stock header pipes and cleaned and painted various components including the triple tree. I couldn't resist placing the seat and tank on the frame to see what we have.

Just as an FYI, the Valkyrie employs that same "stressed member" approach with the engine. If you think about it, it's a lot stronger than a tubular frame!rcmatt007 wrote:kind of nice that the engine is part of the frame, makes it easier to put back together
