Orange peel on SOLID colors can be we sanded out before clear (NOT on metallics and pearls!) Orange peel is not unusual with Spraymax I guess, but sometimes it comes out great right off the bat. Two cans should do four coats. After about 24-48 hours of cure, you can wet sand, polish and buff the Spraymax to a level shine.
Orange peel is caused by spraying too dry, I think, but there is that fine line between orange peel and sags/runs.
BTW, that color looks awesome!

I usually start around 1000-1200 and work to 7000 grit before compounding.

Is this method for the orange peeled color or for the clear coat? Or both?

For the clear coat. For the color, just knock down the orange peel with 1200 grit (use a block!) being careful not to sand through. That is probably enough for the color, but I take it to 2000 or even 3000. It goes fast after things level! Don't compound the color.
But, I'm certainly no finishing expert. Lots of YouTube videos show the way.
