Long time since I posted, but the work has been continuing. I got the seat finshed, made the rear fender from an old 1978 GL, installed the 4 into 1 exhasut (that still needs work, but it is functional), finished the front rotor carriers (they will get cut down further later, but they are functional now), made the headlight and instrument support and made the front fender supports.

Yesterday we finished the weld on the steering stem to lower triple tree and moved the steering stops to where they need to be. Had a slight casualy trying to get the lower steering stem bearing off before the welds so I need to order another one.

Hopefully be ready for the initial road test by June. Once it's ridable I'll wait till this winter to finish the cosmetics.

Here's some pics of where things are now. The full bike pics are before we took the lower tree off for welding yesterday.

Once I get the new lower bearing I can start final assembly. I have had it running for several months now and it sounds really good. All of the brakes are rebuilt and I have new stainless steel lines to go on. Just some finish welding on the front and rear fenders and the headlight / instrument braket and it should be ready for testing.

Will the 4 into 1 exhaust clean up or will it need a high temp paint? Love the custom rotor carriers!!!

Thanks!

The exhaust is going to get coated is some fashion, could be paint or ceramic, but I haven't decided yet. Before that happens it will get chopped up a bit. At a minimum the muffler is going to get a bit shorter and pulled in closer to the bike. Possibly a reverse cone end cap made up. I don't want to change the sound though.

Used to have my headers on my 1000 painted high temp flat black and had used high temp primer first. Heated in SHMBO's stove oven each coat but could never solve the problem of bits (quite a few) flaking off. Finally bit the bullet and had them professionally ceramic coated and have been very happy that I did. Just sayin.

That would be the best option. I'm not sure what colors and finishes are available these days.

So finally the post I’ve been working for. I had my first road test yesterday and it went off without incident👌

Road it home today with another short jaunt around the neighborhood and everything is as it should be.

It is far from done, but everything now is cosmetic. It seems to be running spot on, handling well and stopping really well.

I know the 1100 motor has a lower output gear so that helps acceleration, but I was very pleasantly surprised how much more power the bike puts out with the 1977 carbs and cams with the 1100 motor. The power delivery starts lower in the rpm and pulls much harder.

Very happy so far😁
