A forum for stories, pics and updates of your resto's. Be it a barn find, Grampas hand me down or a bike being brought back to it's former glory. If you are restoring it, show us your stuff!
Yeah, you could be like me and have to replace the DynaS you didn't know you had because one of the modules died. Dynatek gave it to me at cost, but still that is money I would have rather spent on a new seat. My unit was about 4.5 years old according to Dynatek support and this new one looks significantly better crafted so I'm corssing my fingers I don't have to replace this one so soon.
Just got it timed up a few minutes ago and I am planning on taking a nice ride this afternoon to celebrate.
Ok, ya'll might think this is going a little too far in the cheap direction , but I was trying anything I could find around the house that I might could make work to use to make a timing window and found that the top to the children's vitamin called Chock's bottle is a perfect fit ,
with only a half wrap of electrical tape to snug it up good.
It has a clear styrene plastic dome top and you need to cut out the bottom of the softer "bucket" portion. But I think it will work.
Pictures forthcoming.

i got a window when I baught my first GL and have never used it. I can never see the marks with all the oil slinging around in there. I just use the static timing and have never had a problem with it.

The "timing plug" is the way to go but I heard that they were no longer available-- Ive had mine since '75 so have never checked--but a customer told me how he made one---got the stock plug and used a grinder to cut out
the flat on the bottom----then he used a small piece of clear plastic (not the plastic wrap--hard plastic) and glued it in. Threaded it into the hole in the engine case and used his timing light--worked good--- Ray Wooldridge <wooldray@volcano.net>
I know people have been looking for the timing cap sight glass for timing, and I found that it is now available again through the
Honda dealer network. The part number is 07999-3710001, and costs about $18. They won't have it listed, but if they put that number in their computer, they'll find it for you. Stephen Traver <traver@capital.net>
Hy Honda Shop says they can't order this part/tool.

Partzilla also has the same part, same price but 1/2 the shipping cost. Amazons shipping is $16 !!! And its from a slow boat from Honda.

I had a spare cap from a junk motor. I also had a broken pair of safety glasses. Drilled out the center of the cap, cut and trimmed the good lense to fit... Ta Da sight glass.

I've got one for a Harley. It has smaller threads than the Honda plug. I am going to take an extra plug off of a parts bike I have and see if I can drill and tap it for the Harley plug. If it will work and I see no reason it shouldn't the Harley timing plugs can be bought on eGay for $10 with shipping.

ooh, color me envious! I have a tabletop mill that I have yet to make the time to get functional... got that one from an "estate giveaway."
I made my own sight glass many years ago, same way several have mentioned. and I don't remember ever having used it but the once.
I only do static timing now.
