My 12 yr old son just tore down his future 81 GL1100 standard and is going to do some custom work on it and I would like to show off what he is doing.

He's going to learn a lot, and so will you. It will be a rewarding journey for both of you.

Now you can change the subject line. Just edit the first post to do that.

Ok we are home from vacation for a few days so I can update where he is at.

This is what he got to start with I got this one for free. The exhaust is rusted off head gasket leaking I believe due to color and viscosity of oil and hadn't been ran since maybe '04. It did start with ether and run on gas that I added to the rusty tank. So he does have a starter bike.

Everything but the tree is off and the engine isn't torn down but you can see his mind racing. This is his bench and cabinet. As he gets it cleaned, buffed, and sand blasted it will go into an enclosed storage closet till final prep and assy.

Sunnbobb, I got it changed. I'll post here updates with my build. The avatar picture was a bit big so I scaled it down.

Good job Anakin lolol. That's telling Sunbobb how to do it. I did a similar thing with my grandson a few years ago on an 1100. They are great bikes. Make sure you replace the timing belts before running that engine as these are interference engines and if one of those old belts breaks then its destroyed valves and maybe pistons and rods as well. Not a good scenario. New belts are cheap insurance.

To see my grandson's 1100 build click the 1100 build thread link in my signature.

PS I hope you bagged and tagged all your parts and bolts as you took the bike apart. It sure makes reassembling it a lot easier if you did.

Sure looks like a great bike to build, nice actually that it was not dressed yet based on the missing headlight it had been a fairing bike?
