Been having a lot of fun showing this bike at nearby shows. Today we took her to Stearns, Kentucky for their Moonshiner's Run Car Show. HOT, but many really nice vehicles there, and I always try to get some photos of the Hunley with the pinup girls if available.

Been fighting a problem with #2 cylinder fowling the plug rapidly. Finally pulled the rack (again) and carefully examined #2. Airjets in correct place, o-rings looking great, float level correct, passages open, needle pretty worn in rings, and AHAH! Needle jet seriously worn! For now I replaced the needle jet ('75 one-piece) with one from the '79 junker (2-piece with more emulsion holes) and an aftermarket needle that measures correct. I'll search for the correct jet and needle. Need to get it back together for strobe timing and carb sync because I have a show for it the next four weekends.

I have been on this site for a while now and been slowly working my way through the builds etc, i have a 78 that is next in line to begin resto on, looking through you resto is inspirational, and the result is very impressive, i will admit that when i saw the color on the motor i was not a fan, however seeing it all together i have been proved wrong, it suits very nicely.

All back together with '79 needle jet holder and emulsion tube in #2. Fixed the problem! Found a set of four '75 jets on ebay and ordered. They came in yesterday and three of them look just as bad, one looks useable. Think I'll stay with the '79 jet for now. ~40 mile ride and the #2 plug looks fine.

The '79 is running now, but needs forks and front brakes gone through. Hopefully I can get through those this week. I've set the insurance on it to kick in Friday.

Have made a couple "updates". Put a digital LED voltmeter in place of the Oh-so-sow bimetallic stock unit. Lowered the back of the seat until it rests on the rubbers now. Looks a lot better. Then, I checked the compression and got a surprise. - Left bank were 155 and 150 psi - not too bad for a '75 engine. BUT! Right bank were 192 and 186! Now to save you looking back, that was the side that I had to use razor blades to shave rust from the walls after it had been setting under water (as indicated by the rust line across the belt area) for an extended time with the exhaust valves open. Both heads were rebuilt by installing new valves in freshly ground seats and of course new seals. When I buttoned it up and rolled it outside for a trial start, it fired as soon as the float bowls filled and almost immediately accepted the choke to be full Off. A couple minutes warming and she raps right up with the throttle almost as fast as my GL1800. I have the '79 now to ride in hot weather but it will be a pleasure to ride the Hunley to nearby shows.

VTX front MC mounted, but needs bled better (need to get the daughter to help with that). Today we loaded it up to take to Crossville Dragway for their "Hole in your Seat" show. All of the flyers said free to enter, $10 a head admission. Somewhere along the way, the promoter got the idea that he should add on some more drag cars and double the admission price. That was noted in one Facebook post amid tens of posts of the $10 price. We never learned of it until arriving at the gate and being asked for $40 (two of us). I turned around and drove the ~75 miles back home. I don't support such behavior, but don't realistically expect better from race promoters/track owners. I don't know if SignSmith is involved in the mess, but they certainly put their name out prominently to loose business from it.

I totally agree with you, I would have turned around and gone home too. Those fools of organizers dont realize that without exhibits there would be nothing to charge admission for. You are actually doing them a favour by bringing a bike, a bike that you spent and will continue to spend a lot of time and money to keep right, and you should not have to pay to display it.

Went to a small show held by a masonic lodge today. All the flyers said car and motorcycle, but Hunley was the only 2 wheeled entry. Still, a good time visiting with folks (at a distance) and a good friend came by near the end and it was great to see him. One more update on the Hunley - I had powered the Dyna 3 from the Auxiliary power port. I moved that to joint with the regulator sense wire with an added inline 5 amp fuse.

Our church is having a motorcycle/bicycle/craft show on October 3rd. I'm handling the motorcycle part and overall promotion. Last year we had two dozen bikes with some really nice vintage machines (winner was a '29 Henderson Ace). Hope we can still have it and get about twice the number of bikes. I've found others to take the bicycles and crafts.

a few years ago the gold wing club italia, club to which I am neither registered nor registered because it was attended exclusively by GL 1500, a few, and Gl 1800 super ultra equipped, had organized an international gathering 50 km from our house. I contacted them via email to say that I could bring the whole GL 1000 series for free, from 1975 to 1979, in almost all colors, between our Gl and those of my friends, I had the possibility of 14 specimens. it seemed like a nice idea to exhibit at the GL meeting, the first GL that made history. although I sent three emails, I never received a reply, and therefore I did not organize anything. My husband on the Saturday of the meeting, which lasted three days, decided with the GL 1200 to go for a ride, in front of the entrance they asked us, for two people and a motorcycle, 140 euros, with the excuse that included the gadgets, the place tent, breakfast and aperitif the next day. obviously we turned the motorcycle and went to enjoy good fish in a restaurant by the sea.
