Re: Pedro!'s rebuilding projects
G'day to All,
well I am happy, I made up a makeshift setup to hold the crankshaft from spinning during the leakdown tests.
no matter where the pistons are, TDC, BDC half way or anywhere else I set her I always got a 10% leakdown value (= or - 1 or 2).
so its fuel or sparkle, I am going to look at sparkle first as I have had the carbs apart several times now and confident I have done everything correctly.
Happy n Safe Riding to All, peter.

Re: Pedro!'s rebuilding projects
G'day to Paola and Everyone,
well I managed to re-assemble the 75, then wheeled it out into the carport, the carbies and fuel tank are empty as it might stay there a while until I can take it for a test ride (I am still tooooo fizzy in the head to ride on two wheels).
The 76 is up on the workbench awaiting a new Dyna ignition as I stole this one for the 75, I am also going to fit a Nudge/Bumper bar onto the sidecar chassis, have several ideas rolling around in my head.
I decided to fix one of my lathes (again), I filled the saddle up with oil, a week later it had all drained out into the coolant sump and turned into a Vaseline like substance ($40 down the drain) also the saddle fills up with coolant which is not a lubricant.
All the "o" rings were damaged and hard like plastic, there was also a small section of casting missing allowing the coolant entry (poor design).
Stripped, cleaned everything, drilled and tapped a couple of M5 threads and put some long screws in position to hold my repair in place, made up a mould from the side of a milk carton and masking tape, then filled it up with Araldite, then faced it off in the milling machine.

Re: Pedro!'s rebuilding projects
G'day to Everyone
Finally got the 75 all the way back together and running, my Fizzy, Dizzy head has eased off enough that I can drive and ride, yesterday I took the 75 for a run down the freeway into town, back to the end, then home again (approx. 100km) she ran and handled sweet!, just a little rough at idle especially when cold start.
I put it up for sale in Gumtree, instantly had two scammers contact me (I ignore them) then a gentleman from last time I had her up for sale rang, we had a good chat, he and his wife came around today for a peek-a-boo and a little test ride, they are thinking about it.
Today another guy contacted me and he will be around tomorrow for a look.
it will be sad to see her go but my legs are too short and hips getting a little big clickey, I will also sell the Valkyrie as I cant find a sidecar that will suit her. I am going to stay on three wheels. Also my reactions are mostly for outfit riding, you know, steer where you want to go, on two wheels you counter steer especially in an emergency situation which I seem to have lost as most of my riding is on the 88 outfit.
Happy and safe riding to Everyone, Peter

Wow, she is a beautiful bike! Good luck on the sale, and the buyer will be a lucky new owner.

Re: Pedro!'s rebuilding projects
G'day to Everyone
The 75 has gone quiet, no one wants to buy it.
Ever since I bought my Valkyrie I have been disappointed with its performance, the 88 had more grunt and get up and go than the Valky.
I have been messing with the main jets and diaphragm springs ever since. I thought I had it near right last time I messed with her, but she still spluttered a little and I had this feeling that she was too lean.
Wrong!!! I pulled the plugs and got a shock
Way too rich, as you can see by the pics, #1 & #6 seem to be the worst.
I am guessing this is due to the air box design, as you can see the air enters the centre of the box but the velocity stacks on #1 & #6 are pointing into the corners, thus they would be starving a tiny bit more for air than the others.
I have put #90 main jets in her and put the stock diaphragm springs back in as a starting point.
The springs are easy to change, don't even have to remove the tank, but the main jets are a pain as it takes me 6 hours to remove the carbs, change the jets and re-assemble her. I am now going to make some special tools to do this without removing the carbs completely.
Next I will try #90 in 1 & 6 and #92 in 2, 3, 4 & 5. each change I will also swap the Standard springs with the Interstate ones. Interstate springs are a little shorter, finer windings and a little weaker = more fuel ??? /faster response ???
I will check and clean the plugs on every change I do.
