I was coming home from a shop that sells carpet oddments with a small roll for the 76 sidecar, smallest piece they had was 1.9M x 3.3M, I had it in the sidecar next to Dixie, I turned Right at a set of traffic lights (equivalent to Left in the States and Europe) the carpet must have rolled over and pushed Dixie out, but Stupid me didn't realise for about 100 yards    crying1 crying1 crying1

Poor girl had her pads all torn up, one paw wasn't too bad, just grazing.

I feel terrible :( :( :( :( :( :( :(

G'day to Everyone :-D

Dixie has recovered well, she had her last bandage taken off two days ago, they were being changed every two days by the vets. She is limping slightly on her left front paw which was the worst and is just tender now. Just walking on smooth or grassy ground so we drive down to the doggie parks so she can have a sniff, piddle, poop, exercise and a few rolls in something she finds attractively smelly.

There are no Taipan's as far as I know but plenty of King Brown's, Death Adders and harmless Pythons.

The bikes are all shoved in the carport collecting dust and giving refuge to spiders, I only took the 88 out for a ride for the first time yesterday since the mishap.

Been doing lots of little small jobs that have piled up and awaiting my attention for a long time now.

We have switched to 2 weeks on and 2 weeks off at work to minimise contact with others due to the current situation, I don't mind 2&2 but others hate it.

Hope to start working on the bikes again shortly.

Happy and Safe Riding to All, Peter.

G'day to Everyone!

I am back at work now, but last Friday I hopped on the 88 outfit to get some groceries and Dixie was looking at me all sad, I said "In the car!" and she hopped into the sidecar and off we went for a ride which she thoroughly enjoyed.

I am happy that she still wants to be in the chair again dancr

G'day to Everyone :-D

Yes, I miss Dixie when at work, but she misses me too, my wife tells me she constantly goes up to the workshop to see if I have returned.

I purchased an Engine Leakdown Test Kit from e-bay, not top quality but it does the job I need to do as I wont be doing it often.

The 76 tested out perfect, no leaks anywhere :-D

Checked the ignition timing again, spot on :-D

So why is it still running poorly???

Pulled the carbs out and apart again, found #3 slow jet (#35) blocked solid, so I changed that.

I decided that most of my ails come from air vacuum leaks from the very hard carbie insulators.
I have cleaned the rubber off a set of intakes ready to glue the 1500 ones on when they arrive.
I stole the intakes off the 75 to fit on to the 76 as I have already changed them to the 1500 type but time ran out and I am back at work.

Just read all 117 pages of your thread. Extremely interesting and informative. You are definitely one energizer bunny when it comes to your bikes. Lots of great ideas to be had, and ways to do work. C-19 has brought a lot of my pending projects forward. Rebuilding the engine of my my '85 Limited Edition - retirement project, been working on my '85 for the past 4 1/2 years. Always a new mouse trap or idea to do. Will be giving it a fresh paint job as well. Painted my '95 1500 in its entirety, always wanted to paint with spray guns and this was the opportunity for it. Going to rebuild the 1500 engine probably starting this fall - still can't go to far from home so have to keep busy, and it has to be up and operating well for the 2021 touring season.

Keep posting, thoroughly enjoyed the journey.

G'day to Everyone! :-)

I am starting to get very disappointed with my 1000's just cant get them to run smoothly.

Have done a fair bit of work on the 76 outfit although it doesn't show much, mainly to the boat.

Started her up yesterday, fired up on first turn :crosso Great!!! action1 put the fairing back on and headed out into the sunshine.

Was low on fuel (on reserve) so I dropped into a servo and filled her up with Vortex 95, as I went along she started to splutter and miss, I limped home farting and backfiring, only just made it.

I am not happy :-(

I drained the fuel tank (put it in the 88) and filled her up with Unleaded 91 from a jerry can.

She fired up popping and farting but is seemed to go away ???

I wll take her for another test ride today, if she runs fine cold but gets all farty when hot I am suspecting the tappets are too tight, which means pulling the boat and fairing off again.

will take some pics today and post them here.

Happy and Safe Riding to Everyone, Peter.

I've loosened all of mine on the '79 to .005". That or some of the other things I've been doing helped, but it still gets stubborn below ~3000 RPM after about 50 miles. I'm using Ford TFI modules to fire the coils, and had read that you don't need ballast resistor with them, so had it bypassed. After putting the ballast back online, it seemed to help (but, I also loosened three valves from .004 to .005 at the same time). Makes me suspect that the coils may be getting weak, so I have another set preparing. The set that was in there reads 15.5 k ohms on the secondaries, and the replacement (from a junker) set reads 14.4 k ohms. Both from '79 GL1000s (it is assumed). I just wonder if yours was crud in the bottom of the tank that was sucked in and is now in the pump, lines, carbs. Hope not.

G'day to All! :-D

Thanks for the advice pidjones :)

First thing I checked the tappets, they were all between .005" and .006", I reset them to a loose .004". So that was not the problem, but it eliminated the tappets from the equation.

Because she started to go downhill just after I fuelled up I stripped the carbs down again double checking everything, All good! I took the top off the fuel pump, All good! Opened up the fuel filter, All good! :-?

This only leaves the ignition, I checked the ballast resistor, 5.7 Ohm's, I checked a spare and it was the same, then another spare which was 2.9 Ohm's so this one is going in.

In case the coils are semi-cooked I am replacing them with a set of Dyna ones I scored years ago, just have to get all the fittings and make new hardware to mount them.

I am feeling a bit more positive again dancr
