Yea, I'm sure it's probably going to be the most complicated part of this build for me

Now that I have actually looked at the original air opening, I might just cap the front of the air box and only put a filter on the back..??..

I like the look of that plumbing. I hope it works with minimal fuss. You could get lucky.

The whole original ugly box:

Can anyone tell me what this leather/vinyl is called and where I could find it.. I can not seem to find anything close to that. I really like the uneven and color variations.

Try "distressed" leather, or some combination thereof ("worn", "vintage" maybe, etc.).

(Nice bike, BTW.)
1997 Valkyrie- Light Cutomization, but Too Busy Riding
1980 KZ1300- Bike's Haunted
1976 GL1000 (Yellow)- It Runs (Poorly) and Doesn't Leak (Mostly)
1974 Velosolex 3800- Better Than Walking
1972 CB750- Broke the Chain And Ate the Motor
1969 CT90- The Most Fun You Can Have on 90ccs.
1965 CA77 Dream- Needs a Full Teardown, but Complete

All advice I give is only valid until an expert corrects me.

While I can't say for sure, that might be a custom job of a few different coats that have been cut up, and used for that application. Maybe check out a local second hand store for a couple different coats you could Canibilize.

WE LOVE THOSE CREATIVE BUILDS!!!! Can't wait to follow your progress. DItto on the pics hint!
Goldwings don't accelerate, they gain inertia.

1978 GL1000 - almost stock - needs a head replaced, parts are ready to install!
1979 GL1000 - Winter project/parts bike - custom "Busted"
1983 GL1100 Standard- raised from the dead and back to organ donor status
And the newest acquisition, 1979 XS 650F to be a sidecar tug. crossy.gif

I agree, that appears to be cut from a used leather jacket. The different shades/colors/tones comes from worn places like the undersides of the sleeves.

It also appears that it is an oil tanned leather to start with. That is what I used when I made my seat.

I will start hitting the goodwill stores. They are probably cheaper now that summer is coming.

You might check ebay too...if you search for "leather scraps" you could spend all afternoon looking through them...

Today I am working on some brackets to mount the ignition switch and the coil assembly. Just to clarify.... The engine cylinders are numbered 1,3,5 on the right (as you sit on the bike) and 246 on the left. Correct?
