I am going to take over MegaDan’s thread for a while. I bought his Wing from him, and figured I could get it going again.

He had figured the noise he heard was from the rear of the engine. I pulled the cover off the water pump, and could spin it by hand, and there was a funny noise coming from the rear of the engine, so I figured I didn’t have much to loose by tearing into it.

Here is what I found...

Those brass pieces were found in the lower part of the scavenge pump. I am not completely sure what happened first...but the chain is certainly broke. There were 3 small straps of metal, one can be seen in the clutch basket. I am not quite sure what those are from either.

Dan had pulled the B plate out of the clutch when he got it, which looked good, but we do question if some of those pieces found were from an old B plate. Apparently, when Dan got it, he looked in the clutch, and found some of the clutch disks were in backwards. The oil strainer wasn’t to bad, although a leaf apparently made it into the engine oil.

The thing I found rather odd was how all the screws on the scavenge pump were loose. One was ready to fall out! The picture of the pump is how I found it in the engine. What I am now thinking happened was the screw backed out of the pump enough to hit the chain, which then broke it, and then the chain rattled around in there and destroyed the pump housing.

The engine is back together, and will get it back in the frame on Wednesday, and we will see how it runs.

One thing I found when I was disassembling it was the stator wires...

They certainly got hot!

The stator ohms out good, so I will just hard wire it to elimate the plugs.

Yes, I do believe it would have made some interesting noises. He shut it down when he saw that it lost oil pressure.

There isn't a bunch of room in there, so not surprising the chain got chewed up with the clutch spinning around.

Perhaps on Wednesday, I will start to clean the engine up, and freshen up the paint on it before putting it back in the frame. I almost want to fire it up to see what it sounds like before I paint it, and perhaps I will leave it on the stand and fire it up to see how it sounds.

I sure hope you got all the debris out. It doesn't take much to plug an oil passage. What a mess.

Me too! It did seem to keep all the fragments in the rear of the engine. Guessing that had a lot to do with the fact that the oil pump wasn’t turning. Looking in the bottom of the engine through the scavenge pump hole, everything looked clean. When I pulled the strainer, I found a couple rivet heads just sitting in the bottom of the pan. I am guessing they came from what I assumed was an old B plate.

The 75 is alive again! Had to wait a bit for some gaskets to do the water pump, but we fired it up this afternoon. Took it for a short ride around the block, and it seems that everything is ok with it.

Changed the oil after the ride, and nothing real bad came out with it.

Here is how it sits at the moment.

The other side picture was washed out to much to post.

Now I need to get the turn signals working correctly, and get the fender on, and it is time to ride!

Bumping this one back up…my buddy bought this from me, rode it a bit, then sat due to water pump springing a leak. Now it is getting repainted, and the bike has different carbs on it…

It is also getting a new speedometer…

With the fancy headlamp, you'll probably want to bypass the reserve lighting unit.

That headlight has been on the bike since I have had it, but probably not a bad idea to bypass that.

We will get pictures once the paint is done, and everything is completed on that bike. Guessing the panels won’t be painted for a while.
