Ah! I wondered what material it was made of... hard to tell from the pics! Thanks!palepainter wrote:Track T 2411 wrote:Looking great! I'm very curious about fabbing the fairing. I'd love some details, if you'd wish to share...
The fairing is made from a steel stamping that artists use to display motorcycle tank art. I trimmed it to the shape that I wanted and to the contour of the headlight lens. Then I made two brackets that mount behind the stock Gl headlight mounts. The brackets are .080 thick. I had to do just a bit of shaping on the wheel to get the right spread on the material. But not much. I think it could simply have been done over the knee as well.

Assembled front end of motor today. Tearing down back half of it this week. The bore is perfect. Low mileage bike.

Thanks for the hardware Robin.
Rebuilt starter clutch and added an access point to lube it in the future. Waiting on new alternator coil for charging system
Bolting it back together.

Why would you need to lube the starter clutch? It runs in oil.

Yes. The entire linkage is pretty much hand made except for the Heim joints at end of connecting rods.Wangthang wrote:I also like the carb. Linkage. Is that bell crank handmade?

Re: Let the party begin. Couple of 76 GL1000s
I have read in a few places that the oil is constantly being forced out of there by centrifugal force and that it is a bit of security to have access to those points for the occasional preventative lubrication.Shadowjack wrote:Why would you need to lube the starter clutch? It runs in oil.
