It’s been a while since I posted. Life keeps getting in the way. Work has been off the hook and I had to head to the Florida keys to take care if the inlaws house since Irma decided to visit. Hoping to get the wiring harness back in soon.

I do not know if you have derusted the tank as of yet. If not, wait for my results I also have a 1976 and the tank inside looks like crap Since i have seen all this before, I always test the crud to find out what it is. Pour a 50/50 solution of Pine-Sol into the tank and let it sit for a day. One container [40 ounce] is enough. Drain out the solution and save it. Rinse with hot water and shake it. if all kinds of brown crud comes out with bright metal showing like mine did, then buy another container of pine sol and pour it in. seal the tank, and fasten it to a riding mower tire and turn it end over end for at least a day.You could even get creative and power a mower transmission with an electric motor I am between step one and two right now and will report back on the results.

Even if i later have to do some rust removal, i can assure you that it is much easier with those dried up gasoline crystals removed from the tank

Of course lacquer thinner will dissolve gasoline dried varnish, but it is unkind to the rubber bits in the petcock and any other places you might not know about. I will be watching your thread and taking some pictures of my stuff should i decide to start a thread.

BTW if the paint is not scratched badly, Rustoleum clear coat might be able to bring it back

Very cool. This thread is about your bike but i am interested in that I am working on my first Wing. When it gets a bit further, i will start my own thread.

Wow, does that bike look clean!

WOW it has been a LONG time. Life keeps getting in the way. I finally am putting her back together. Paint has been ordered. British racing green metallic as the base and a silverish pewter as the accent color. I think I will have a racing strip going over the fenders, cafe fairing, and center of the faux tank. for now I am just focusing on getting the painting done. I can rebuild the brakes, polish the engine parts and replace the handle bars when it gets colder.

Here is the mock up of the side tank stencil I will have made. Any feedback would be great.

Sorry friend, It needed to be repainted and as long as I was doing that was going with a color I liked. besides that have you seen the cost of the replacement decals. if its any consolation I did struggle with this.
