Re: GL1000 75 from France
Thanks for the statoscope tip. I tried by ear to localize the noise but it appears to be on both sides of the engine, can't attribuate it to one side rather than the other.
I was thinking about the beheavior of the primary chain on the GW engines : can an excessive wear of this chain cause such noises ? (tensionner and/or guids not operant when chain too much elongated ?). And related to my brass chips discovered around the oil filter, can it be from the little pipe lubrificating the primary chain ? (I say that because that's what occurs in CBX1000 engines with worn primary chains)

Again ,not being able to hear it makes speculation a little hard. Primary chain noise is usually caused by carb sync being off, and normally only at idle. Bearing noise can happen without oil light coming on. Light normally comes on at about 3 psi. A little late to be of much help. Divide the engine into four sections. Front, rear, left, and right. Listen for the noise in each section, and determine where it is the loudest. The CBX is a totally different engine then the GL, and comparisons of the two is a waste of time, and unreliable

Thanks for your thoughts !
I'll try to localize this noise but I think i'll tear the engine apart this winter, so I can check everything and be ready for a full and peaceful riding season next year !

Re: GL1000 75 from France
I hope it's not bottom end. That would really be a shame.
As Cyborg notes, the frequency is key in making that determination. Valve train will likely be at twice the frequency (and the pitch higher) than <gulp> rod bearings or mains. However, it is typical for rod bearings to assert themselves more with higher RPM and load. If you can duplicate the noise in the garage, do what Cyborg suggests. Try and isolate the origin of the noise. When you're near it, you'll know. (Stethoscope, long handled screwdriver, and I've heard wooden dowel, can all help pinpoint the source). Definitely do that before tearing it down.
<EDIT: I rambled on above and hadn't seen Page 2. You guys have a plan. Going back to sleep now.>

Re: GL1000 75 from France
I tried to follow your advices and I found that the noise is more hearable behind the #3 cyl. I indicated this area on the picture below. At this place, there is a little case bolted on the engine case (partialy hided on the picture by the gas pump), is it worth to remove it in order to diagnostic before the great opening of this winter or is it of no use ?

Re: GL1000 75 from France
did you listen to the fuel pump and see if the noise was coming from there?

Yes, I tried to heard the fuel pump but the noise seems to come merely from the crankcase, rather than the rear of the head . . .

Nothing behind that cover but the final reduction gear. You need that access to install it, but there's nothing that would make a repetitive noise there.

Thanks for the info about this cover. Not easy to localize this noise precisely, it is just more heardable around this zone.

Re: GL1000 75 from France
This morning, tried to heard the noise at the first revs of the engine when cold, and you guys were right, the noise is located around the fuel pump . . .
When hot, the noise also takes place in the crankcase, I'm not very good at hear diags . . .
I start to read the tech forum, I think I'll find some tips about this pump tactactac !
