One thing I'd like to have your advises on : changing engine oil, I had little brass flakes (about some tenths of a millimeter in size) near the oil filter (not very much flakes). I've read the forum a little and It appears it can be a clutch disk rivet or also other reasons.
My engine is good with gear selection, clutch is slipping a while under hard riding, and some "rattling" sound while accelerating from 3000 to 7000 rpm. Is it dangerous to still ride it ? Rod bearing could product such flakes ?
Thanks in advance for your help !

I have seen small amount of gold colored flakes on many oil changes, on many different wings, and it did not cause any major problems, Slipping is another matter. That would concern me. Using the wrong type oil can cause that.

Excellent! I am so happy that old seat is gone. You have a great eye and the two things I would most have changed you have already done - the seat and the old crash bars! Did I say excellent? Looks really good.

Thanks ! And I share your point of view about the look. On the other hand, thoses bikes are so pretty that all parts fits them ! :-D
Ride with the new brakes this afternoon, good to have more than a delayed slowing device, more confident on the road . . . . :-D
And mod not too expensive, 50 € for the calipers, 25 for the master cylinder, 30 € for the hoses and 50 € for the pads.
New handlebars improved my front end feeling but I'm not satisfied with the fork springs : too much diving (althrough I shimmed the springs by 15mm and grade 15W oil) : any adress to obtain stiffer springs for this model ?
Thanks in advance.

I'd like to disasemble the starter motor (to see if everything is allright inside, some difficulties to start when hot, but it could be the weak battery, 5 years old . . .) : the french workshop manual says the rear cover have to be removed to remove the starter motor : is it true or the starter can be removed leaving the pinion in the rear case ?

The starter can be removed relatively easily without removing the engine, etc. If I recall correctly, the exhaust manifold on that side must be dropped, and the rear most exhaust stud removed to allow the starter to be removed. The sprocket stays inside the chain. Some people have experienced a bit of difficulty realigning the starter and sprocket, but it will go back together...

Some news !
I have a noise inside the engine, that occurs over 3000 rpm, a "tac tac tac" that is pretty loud when accelerating, opening the throttle. When i'm on small throttle openings (stabilized speed), this noise is less heardable.
I searched in differents directions (reading a lot of threads on this forum, a hudge amount of informations here !) :
- leaking exhaust joints on head : new fiber ones, no effect.
- valves clearance : no problem, in specs.
- carb sync : differences in mercury vacuum less than 1/2 inch, and less than that at 3000rpms.
- ignition static advance : OK (after filing a little the slots in the plate supporting points 3/4, my points have little wear where it touch the cam).
- Plugs OK and of the right color.
- the oil pressure lamps lights off after a few cranks of the starter motor.

I don't know if there is something else I could test before stripping down the engine to investigate about this noise.
Any idea ?
Thanks in advance.

I would use a statoscope to isolate where the sound is coming from.
also the frequency of the sound is a clue.
