Re: Talk to strangers!
Busy weekend! All engine parts are now painted and engine is getting assembled. Somehow that dreaded metallic paint and I don't get along. Runnings on one top that had to be done right. So back in the spray booth again.
Brake calipers gor rebuilt tonight. It was a bit disturbing to realise that I've just built two right hand side calipers instead of one each but what can I do other than rebuild another one for the left side.
In the "complete engine gasket and o-ring set" that came with the bike deal there were about a thousand o-ring. Unmarked in a big bag. Using the parts list, that also came with the bike, tape, paper and heavy metal I got it sorted.
Thats it for this weekend

Re: Talk to strangers!
Today I started taking care of the tank covers. Sanded the top cover and found out that this bika has a history. Felt like Indian Jones digging in secret toombs... On my quest to find good patches of original paint I discovered that this bike was repainted no less than FIVE times. Four layers of blue/green and two layers of darker blue. Wet sanding 400, 600, 1200 made a nice pattern.

Re: Talk to strangers!
Agree with Easter, sure would be a unique look. Can always change it later, but I do think this as the paint scheme would be a good topic of discussion wherever you ride it. Might turn out better than expected.

Re: Talk to strangers!
Tank and frame time! Lot of work on the frame during this week. All loose rust removed and then primed. Got the tank cleaned and primed ready for paint. A couple of hours in the thinner mist made them all black. I got fuel float out and it looked like new.
A bit of a turning point tonight when the frame is painted. Looking forward to start assemble all the parts to see if it will become a motorcycle. Who knows?
Got back to my paint dealer again to look for a matching paint
That’s it for this time

Re: Talk to strangers!
Nothing much since last update. Frame is finished along with all other black stuff. Working my way through the parts bin and cleaning everything. I had the rear shocks disassembled for check up and cleaning. One of them was a bit tired. The gas escaped! So that means I have to order new ones. Hagon road looks like a winning concept. For taking it apart I had to build a tool, worked well with no drama. I polished the fork bottoms but feeling a bit uncertain if I like that look, might be a bit too shiny. Some electrical part are back on the tank frame. The plan is to tear down the paintbooth and start building a motorcycle in the end of this week. Lots of pictures are coming.

1) I also like the spring compressor - but being a chicken, I'd probably strap the right side down to keep it from potentially escaping.Easter wrote:Cool!Rednaxs60 wrote:Very innovative shock spring compressor.

2) Easter beat me to it. Nothing is EVER too shiny. (Then again, I've got a Valkyrie with "extra" chrome).

Re: Talk to strangers!
A strap would be a good idea but as I wrote it felt safe as is. Not much tension in the springs at all. For us amateurs the worries often comes through by oversizing all materials. When I start selling them at ebay it will come with a strap and a caution sticker!

Re: Talk to strangers!
Finally! After all work with cleaning, repairing and painting I gor to start the reassembly. First clean the garage, two hours of shoveling snow, minor repair on the snow mobile, test drive, but
I got a couple of hours of pure fun. The best part of working all ”new” parts is that hands don’t get dirty, only a bit greasy from fresh oil and grease.
Started building around the engine. First the frame then clutch wire and fuel tank. Next up is wire harness I think. After that swing arm and center stand.
