Engine partly disassembled, in place. PO said "the chain was rattling." :IDTS:
Took it apart to do what? HUH?
I could get the engine to turn by hand but rather stiffly. :IDTS: :(
Pulled the heads. Had 2 slightly bent intakes. Like being slightly pregnant. lolol
So, we just happen to have a complete '83 gl1100 motor. Just need to clean 'er up and put on some paint and heads. For a beginning, that is. :orange
Got a new gel battery, new Shinko tires, cleaned and lined the tank, and, this one "is gonna be white!" action1
We will be using the silver painted Comstars that originally came from Cosicud.
Got some new brown leather saddlebags coming as well as a brown seat cover.
I put in a new high output stator on the rear cover and misplaced the drive gear. Had a couple laying around. Truthfully speaking, 2 hours later and I simply could not get the shaft to line up and go it to the bearing in the engine! :IDTS:  :x
OK now.
Time to search for that can with those parts in it. confused22
BINGO! And guess what!?!? There is a difference! :-D The '83 gear has 6 circular indentations on the "big" end that the earlier ones do not have. And is just slightly smaller. :orange
WOW! I am really learning stuff! lolol
Got the rear caliper cleaned up and working. Rebuilt the rear brake m/c.
The rebuilt forks came also from Cosicud and they already have good working calipers.
I cut 2" off each end of those handlebars and that really makes them not so "cowboy" like (not my term). lolol

Been a full day. Seems that my "retirement" is turning to be not so retiring! lolol
One build after another. Loving it. Keeps me active.

Progress on Sonnyboy! We replaced the bad '81 motor with the '83 motor, put some "good" heads on it, and it just did not want to run. It seems that #3 exhaust valve is sticking slightly open. :( Plus, my helper had the spark plug wires mis-installed. :IDTS:
OFF WITH HER HEAD! lolol
Got more coming. Heads. She will run!
Got pictures! action1

We were going to put a Vetter fairing on her, but can't seem to get the right mounting bracket. (yet) :orange
Those new Shinko Tourmaster 230 tires fill up those fenders. :-D
The rear master cylinder just won't cooperate. So, an 1800 m/c will be adapted. :orange
More later. dancr

lolol

Trust me, the Sonnyboy build is/was as bad, if not worse! At least the '83 engine is good. :orange
It is the white one. Used to be the one with the green side cover. Had bad motor. :(

Just tossing this out there, you checked the tiny 'spooge' hole, and tried 'bench' bleeding it (just working the m/c with no line attached)?

Maybe should/could have, but at this point, a newer brake master cylinder might be the ticket, in the long run. ;) For about the same money, with about half the work, in my opinion, a no- brainer .
Yes, I have been accused of not having any brains! But she no longer lives here!

No disrespect intended.

Removed the 1-3 head to be replaced with the spare.
Should be a reasonably easy/ semi-quick fix. :orange
Now we wait on a headgasket. Sure, there are still plenty of other things to do to this bike but that list is not nearly as long as it once was. :-D

Finally got the new head gasket, some fine weather, and the time to complete Sonnyboy's.
This engine came out of the bike in the first picture (it is a '83 gl1100). It had not run for several years but was stored inside. The oil that came out of it was sludge. Looked like it had never been changed. :IDTS: Makes ya wonder, huh. :-?
Anyway, got the new head on the 1-3 side and installed the other "stuff" that had to be removed. Oil, coolant, no leaks. action1
Started up right away and smoked for about ten minutes. (MMO)
No rattles, no clunks. No leaks. (still) :-D
Ran it until the fan came on and went off. Waited about ten minutes and hit the start button and WHAM! it started right up. action1
Ready to ride!
Wait a minute, Seabiscuit! No brakes.
Oh, right. That is a tomorrow thing. This old man is beat. shakehands :-D
Pictures? Oh, we have pictures!

UPDATE! I sold Cosicud and that afternoon, my friend decided that Sonnyboy was "just too much bike" for him. :IDTS:

So, it is now mine. :-D

It is basically the same as previously pictured, however, I have just put on some leather saddlebags swiped from my Valkyrie. And one of those small windshields. There is a Vetter fairing in the works as soon as I can wrangle a mount. I have three but not one will fit.
It has the same carb setup as Cosicud. (Holley-Weber progressive two barrel). :orange
Got two more gl1100 bikes in the works. (Yes, I have MBS! lolol

Let's go ride! :crosso
