the frame will come back from the painter soon, so i am ready to start gathering my carbs and engine. i have an engine GL1E-2024552. A 1978 FRAME AND 1978 FINAL DRIVE. carbs are ,..758A looks like it belongs to 1976+ 2 other sets to select from need to get those numbers. i am still reading if this will al go together. i need my final drive numbers. from what i can deduce the engine is a 76 and the carb is a 76. now need to check on the frame and final drive match

Pulled the bearing out of the rear wheel as well as removed the flange. The flange did not come off easy. had to use a gear puller to break it free. no grease on these, dry as a bone. The tool made from instructions on this site, to punch out the bearing, worked. Evaporust worked AWESOME, getting the rust off the flange. interesting thing. no O-ring on the flange as outlines in the Clymer book. looks like I will purchase a new O-ring and install . Bearings are shot, need new ones.

If you're talking about the aluminum center of the wheel itself, they may not be cracks, but rather casting marks. Lots of Honda castings look terrible on the unfinished surfaces. Just a thought...

Finally able to get the piston out. had to purchase new bleeder and attached my front break master cylinder with line to the rear break. stuck a piece of bicycle tire tube between the two halves to cut off the other side w/o the piston. came out beautifully. now i will spray with paint removed and repaint with caliper paint.

having difficulty locating the tool to remove front bearing retainer ring. purchased a tool with good rep per the site. notches did not line up and might have buggered up the notch on the wheel. now nee advice as to getting this ring off. any help out there? i have seen using a flat head screwdriver on care bearing rings. metal is pretty soft on the ring.
purchased a tool from harbor freight. it has round post and not square . no luck with it yet.

I made a tool for removing the retainer from an inexpensive socket. Takes some fiddling around, but it has worked well for me. Um, just a thought, did you know the retainer is 'staked?' There is (or should be) a dimple near the outside edge of the retainer made with a punch that deforms the threads and locks it into place. You should take a drill bit just a tad larger than the dimple and carefully drill it out before trying to remove the retainer.
