I screwed the pooch today. I was putting the heads back on my 77 and things were going very well, I got the heads back on a torqued down the as luck would have it the right cam fell off the table and hit the floor. No big deal right so I picked it up and noticed it was missing something. Yep, the tach drive was still on the floor.

So now I have questions. I know I can just put it back together and not have a tach drive, And the fuel pump drive doesn't matter because I am using a 1200 electric pump anyway. That would be my last option.
Here is the question. I have two 1100 motors in my back yard that I bought for parts. Will the cam from a 1100 fit into a 1000 head? I really don't want to pull the head back off.
OR does anyone have a right side cam from a 1000 they will part with.
PLEASE reply if you have any answers.
Thanks Dave

Need to find a 77 cam.

Will the 1100 cam fit? Yes. Will be the same as the 77 cam? No.

I could replace both cams with the 1100 cams if that would help.

I think what Robin is saying is that each year of the gl1000's had different and specific cams, so even if it fit the 1100 cams are not set up for the 77 carbs

I know you guys are rolling your eyes and saying" when is he going to realize that 1100 cams won't work on a 1000 because of the points ignition" Well after going out in the heat and taking the heads off the worst of my 1100 parts bikes It dawned on me.
I guess the plan is to not have a tach until I can come up with a good used cam. Or like a much wiser person said
Go with an electronic tach!
I have come too far now to let a stupid mistake stop me.

As suggested by OCR you could go with the cam as several members here have done. They have lopped off tach part and made a cover for it. Tach will need to be electronic, one from many 80-90 year Honda four cylinders will work. You’d also need an electric fuel pump like your other build, especially since the carb bowl is undoubtably higher than stock.

You can also put both 1100 cams in but you’d need a different ignition source. No easy work around to that one.
Whatever I suggest here should be given ample time for a moderator to delicately correct. I apologize in advance.
