Only one of the insulators wasn't cracked or completely shattered. Time for new ones.

The 1983 has the forks with the Trac system for anti- drive. Does anyone know of a source for the seals for the brake mount/fork slide pins?
She's getting new Shinko sneakers today.

The last time I bought the boots for the brake mounts and TRAC they were available from my local Honda dealer.

Well, Bob, they still are available. They're spendy, like $10@ and four are needed. Not a seal to be neglected however. All the rest are still serviceable.
I could see how those anti-dive forks would be nice on Mr.H. What setting do you use on the Trac with your sidecar? ? I'm thinking about setting it at 2, with 4# in the shocks and go from there. BTW it is 100 degrees here today so I am hiding out in the house and the garage with the AC on.

My forks aren't stock and only one of them has Trac. The last time I had the TRAC apart I had some trouble getting it back together so I fudged things a bit but it seems to work OK. More info here:

New side doors for the Vetter bags. I have some old Honda tank badges that might work, but they seem a bit large for the bags.

Things are coming along. I'm getting my exercise walking from the garage top the shop to the barn, back to the shop, and by the time I get back to the garage with the parts, they are not the parts I originally set out to find. I'm glad I still have a week before I head out to South Dakota.

The Saber Cycle hitch that I settled on didn't come with all the hardware, so a 9/16' rod was procured, cut to size and drilled to fit inside the tubing as a joiner for the three main parts for the hitch. I then got a 1/4x3/4x36 piece of bar stock for the main support from the frame's seat mounting bus. I then drilled the bar stock to match the holes on the two short pieces of bar stock provided with the hitch. I hope it holds. I plan to pull about 175 pounds.

I needed to move the Vetter bag mounts out about 7/8 of an inch to accommodate for the needed space behing the bags, because of those weird bumps on the backside of the bags. So, another fabrication project.

First startups are always so much fun. It is a learning experience. Three of the four floats were stuck open. So I guess the cylinders got cleaned unintentionally. Tapping and persistence loosened the floats I hope. I'll change out the resulting gasoil for fresh oil and synch carbs tomorrow.

The doors are NOS from a EBay seller. The decals were taped to the inside. They are at a minimum 30 years old. Needless to say the adhesives are also old. The front protective layer, when removed, leaves a tacky material on the surface. I'm not sure what to use to remove the residue without damaging or weakening the pinstripe bond.

It's finally out of the garage. Nice to have it off the stand, but I miss the AC. It's in the 90's tomorrow.
I took it out for its shakedown cruise. I was expecting lots of sounds, but not the incessant chirping. I couldn't seem to locate it, so I stopped let it idle, and it continued. So I shut the bike off. Darn crickets,
It does need some additional work.
1. I was not getting power to the temp and fuel gauges, so I replaced the 7v voltage regulator. Still no gauges. So tomorrow, off comes the radiator.
2. The foot pedal on the brakes is set too low, and the brakes seem weak. I'll try bleeding them again tomorrow, and maybe see how the adjustment of the pedal to the master cylinder is.
3. The throttle cables may need adjustment, or maybe I have a sticky vacuum slide piston. If it's the former, easy peasy, since I have to remove the seat and false tank anyway to check the wiring. It might be a vacuum leak. But I'd rather it not. Fix it!

This project is really nice looking. Paint looks great! Interesting engine guards that maybe buy you a little more room for the feet, especially with your floorboards. Do I spy a possible left fork seal leak starting, or perhaps just dirt/dust getting pushed up?
