Hopefully a quick project

#1

Post by Whiskerfish »

Picked this one up last summer but have not touched it till today. It is a 75 and most of it is there. I got it with another complete bike (untitled) and one titled frame. So will be scavenging from the other one. Needs proper handlebars. wiring snafu straightened out, seat, fuel tank clean out, Carbs and brakes all rebuilt, Tires, timing belts etc etc etc etc .... I got the fuel tank drained today and it does not look horrible inside so I think I can clean it out in place. Goal is to have it road ready by spring to sell.

Yea the seat is pretty pathetic. There is another one that came with the "haul" but i think it went to a 750 or something. Pops up from the side. think i might have some in the rafters somewhere.

Sorry no pics but the efforts on the fuel tank turned out better than I could have hoped for. She is clean as a whistle inside now and full of fresh gas. Looks better inside than the ones on my daily riders!! In a few days after this trip I hope to get the carbs on the bench and see what I have there. Maybe do a bit of painting on the engine while I have the rack out just to spiffy things up some.

pneumatic Vacuum and a rag on a stick! It had some particles and a little bit of slime growth but was basically rust free.

Something that I've added as a high and unavoidable expense when doing one of these projects - tires. They almost always have tires that the PO will say "they have plenty of tread left", but are at least 10 years old. I wouldn't even test ride my latest project until mounting new rubber. The dates on them were pre-2000!

Yea Tires, Brake lines, Caliper rebuild kits, Master cylinder rebuild kits, Timing belts, carb kit, fuel lines, Fuel filter, Coolant flush, oil change, are all the minimum. Those are guaranteed on just about every bike that leaves my shop. Even with those I can usually make a modest profit if I buy for the right price.
