It's been a one step forward, two steps back kind of day. Buttoned up the exhaust, rear air lines, fuel lines, air box, and assorted hoses, then took a break for lunch. Picked up a few gallons of fresh fuel on the way back to the storage unit, downloaded that into the tank, checked over a few things, and hit the start button.
She lives! lolol lolol lolol
Then came the fuel leak...
So now the carbs are off and on the workbench at home. From what I could see while they were still on the bike, the leak seems to originate between the #3 carb and the plenum. Plenum floor was dry, as was the venturi. That's what I get for NOT testing them ahead of time. shakehands shakehands shakehands

I did a 'hanging' fuel supply test to pinpoint the leak. #3 carb was missing the d- ring between the carb and plenum. No clue how I missed it, or where it is. Good thing is that I keep a bag of old parts just in case. Not the ideal solution, but it works. If I would have done a simple vacuum test when I rebuilt them I would have found it right away.

She's gaining some weight! I just had to toss the seat on and ride her around the storage lot, lol! Still need to do some fine tuning; tried to adjust the clutch, but didn't do very well. Should have done it when the rear wheel was still off...

Are you going to pull the clutch cover? Other than that, why would it have been better while the wheel was off? Please explain.

The 80-81 has a screw and lock nut plunger rod that is accessible by just removing a cap (same as the stator) in the center of the clutch cover. 82-83 engines are non- adjustable other than at the cable ends. It's just harder to get a screwdriver and a 10mm wrench in there and see what you're doing, all at once.
The procedure is simple. Fully slacken clutch cable, both at hand lever and engine. Remove cap, and loosen lock nut. Screw IN plunger rod until slight resistance is felt. Back out plunger rod 3/4 turn. Tighten lock nut. Install cap. Adjust cable at engine for about 5/8 inch play at hand lever. Adjust cable at hand lever for 1/4 to 3/8 inch play. Go for a ride!

That procedure sounds a lot like the 1000 clutch. Can't say I even noticed the cap being on the motor I just dropped in the frame. I'll have to look.

It is just like the 1000 except the cable and arm are on the outside, and it's just a small cap to access the plunger rod.

Layla is home! Rather than load up and haul the rest of the plastics and sundry parts, I took the back way and rode her 'as is' the seven miles home.
Time to get her dressed!

A very active storm cell is bearing down on us as I type this. I raced to get as much installed on the bike as possible before riding her back into town and tucking her away in the storage unit. All I have left to install is the rear rack, backrest, and saddle bag brackets, and the front fairing lowers.
She's running great, even without any carb adjustments or dynamic sync. I still need to adjust the clutch, re-bleed and adjust the rear brake, and play around with a few 'fit and finish' issues.
I'm hoping to take our first real ride on Saturday.
