1983 Aspencade
Its a 1983 Honda GL1100 Aspencade. I actually I did this build last year while I was in Argentina, So I do not really have the build pictures you might be looking for. However, now that I am back in the U.S. I am planning the following:
1. Black clip-on handle bar and lower the front.
2. Take the seat off and go with a triumph speed triple.
3. Remove rear air shocks and lower the back end.
4. Remove the front lights and either go with a round single OR the MT-03 Headlight.
5. Clean up the turn signals and brake lights and go to LED's.
6. Some how get RID of that digital cluster and go analog.
7. Come up with an exhaust system that either does 4 into 1 exiting the right side just in front of the wheel with a
rectangular exhaust tip OR just have 2 rectangular tips on either side.
Comments and bashing are always welcome......

Re: Barron64 - 83 GL1100 Aspencade
Nice start! We usually don't bash (much), but I will agree with getting rid of that dash cluster! There was a build thread just recently on stripping an Aspy, including going with stock analog gauges, IIRC. Enjoy the ride!

Re: Barron64 - 83 GL1100 Aspencade
Today I dropped the nose. I had an issue with putting the clip-ons on with the original mounting portion creating an issue, so I flipped the existing bars until I come up with a solution.

Nice bike. You may be interested in a thread I posted on my 83 Aspy conversion which included changing to 82 analogue gauges. Not all the thread applies as you have gone more custom than stock but some info will be of interest.

Re: 1983 Aspencade
My ignition switch on the 83 GL1100A has died. So I am replacing it with a wireless device instead and will use a "key fob" to turn on and off the ignition. I have cut the wires off "at the switch" and I have one wire that I am conflicted over. It is the Green / Black wire. What is it and does it connect to the "solid" black wire? Also, is it 30 or 40 amps at the "old" ignition switch ?

Re: 1983 Aspencade
That dash is a nice fly catcher windshield. It you see it for its bug value it looks better to me. To take it off and then add a similar fly catcher not sure the view is worth the climb. Looking good on that transformation.

I haven't removed it because of it kind of looks like a mini fairing ( in my demented mind ). Besides I am having too much fun riding.Fred Camper wrote:That dash is a nice fly catcher windshield.
