Thanks guys very happy with how it’s coming along.

Has anyone ever rekeyed these Honda locks? The helmet locks I have aren’t keyed the same.

I need to either fix or replace the emblems for the faux tank covers. The peeled black paint will bother me.

First ride! Now I can take the time to really clean the body work and chrome parts. Ran beautifully. Tacho responded slow but all other gauges seemed to work, I’ve yet to have the fan kick on so hopefully that works.

Oh and that seat... yuck

Yeah, but I too am not fond of the Joker/Queen seat either. A stock seat is better to me.

K&Q shoves the package into the shelter. For the tach, a partial drop of silicone spray (very thin stuff) appied to the needle pivot bearing will thin the old, thickened lube and return normal operation. Trouble to this is you have to open it to access the bearing.

Another thumbs down on the seat. Heck, I'd have bought the bike just to have the satisfaction of junking that seat!

I have read where others reported that the tach sometimes improves with use after a long layoff. This may be wishful thinking but the one on my 78 restoration is similar to yours in that it is slow but I am going to wait until I ride the bike a bit before tearing the tach apart. It will likely end up being a project for next winter as there are some cosmetic improvements I want to do to the speed/tach cluster as well.
And I agree on the seat, stock would be a huge improvement

Ha glad everyone agrees on the seat. Fortunately I have a factory seat coming! sad that I had to spend near as much as I did on the bike but how much is pride worth! And for the tacho I will also leave it for a little in hopes it fixes itself, its starting to get warm I'd rather ride than take a tacho apart!

Got new tires, timing belts, and front turn signals coming (the front turn signals are pretty rough, picture on the first page of this thread I think). Need to check valve gaps I think it could run better and that has not been gone through yet, will recheck compression while the engines warm too.

Also located all the chrome shrouds for the exhaust and the factory headlight assembly in the box of parts the owner kept so I will be cleaning those and getting them on as well. on the 79's is there a shroud for the header or just the muffler and was the header black or chrome? That last picture is very deceiving of the exhaust its actually in pretty decent shape just needs polished.

The 78-79 had two piece covers for the headers that clamp on, IIRC. First ride is always great!

the headers were chrome on the 78-9's and there are two header shrouds for each side. Looks like you may be missing the shrouds. Near impossible to find ones without scrapes and rust on ebay…. although a couple of years ago I scored three of the four as NOS and they were in great shape (not for sale)
