I read this: https://ngwclub.com/forum/viewtopic.php ... move+decal

WD-40 and heat and the decals peeled off then a scrubbing with kerosene and 0000 steel wool for the gum residue; worked great.

There are a few deep chips (down to the plastic) that I guess I should fill before sanding?

Scuff it up and apply Bondo, then start sanding? Thanks for any insights; I know little.

I would avoid the Bondo glazing and spot putty. Stick with the two-part. The spot putty is easily attacked by acetone, which is the thinner in most rattle-can primers.

Looking smooth. What color are you going with? 2k, enamel, lacquer, water based? I used water based for my RD400c and was impressed with how the metallic popped after the 2k clear coat (rattle-can SprayMax) went on. A whole different method than the lacquer I had used before, but covers real nice. Bought the paint our of the UK and it is a great match to the 1976 Geneva Green that these came in back in the day. You have to protect it until it is clear coated, though.

Well, I'm also going green. My inspiration:

I have no idea where to start looking, but that's the color I want. Figure I'll just shoot it with the HF purple gun if I can't find a rattle can.
Eventuality, I'll try my hand at making a pair of cedar hard bags. I have some experience with strip canoe construction.

Hey y'all
Nobody said nothin' 'bout no cream. :-D But I did consider it. But a safer plan for me now is to shoot it with a solid color and apply the decals from the 75 blue. I think that will look nice...enough.

I couldn't find a suitable rattle can locally, so I'm going to play around with rustoleum; a blend of green and a little bit of black.

I have learned that a hardener is recommended; anyone have a recommendation?

Good score on the manometer! Remember, the paint should be 2K clear coated. I use SprayMax purchased on Amazon.

you mention a hardener... hardeners are for two-part paint. I have not heard of using a hardener with rustoleum

There's this stuff called acrylic enamel hardener. I don't know anything about, or if it's even necessary.
Here's a random pic from the net:
