I don't think that is a GL speedometer. Early ones would have a green face. And the trip reset knob would be on the side. that might be a 750 speedometer.

Could be off of the F, but it fit and seems to have the same ratio. I'll know when I can ride it, but my drill drove it to ~30 MPH, which is about what it drives the GL clock. The odometer works on it even though the reset is out the back.

Got a chance to try out Johnny 5 with the new speedometer today. All seems to be working well. Put in ~ 45 miles over Norris Dam (we are safe) and did about 5 miles of it on interstate at 70 MPH.

Rode Johnny 5 into Knoxville on the chance Time Warp Tea Room had opened (was still closed). They have plans to set chairs outside and sell at the door next Tuesday. Bike runs better every timem but still the part-throttle hesitation. I think that I remember Randakk or another carb guru noting this is a '77 carb (which Johnny has) issue that there is a correction for. I'll read up on that. I'm sure the carbs need re-balance, but after warmup it idles pretty smooth.

One recommendation for 77 carbs is a #4 washer udder the clip on the needle. Make sure it's a #4, not a 4mm.

Was just reading up on this on Randakk this morning. Stopped at ACE after the dentist today - they don't have anything smaller than #6. I'll dig in my washer drawer and see if I can round four clean ones up.

Pulled the carbs off Johnny 5 today and did a little tuning on them. Added the washers under the needles (no clips on them - you just put the washer under the head to lift it a bit). Polished slides (again) changed one air jet from a 130 to a 120, and changed all slow air jets from 120 (correct for the '78 engine) to 110 (correct for the '77 carbs). Made it so much better! Let's ride!

Oh, and I was having the typical neutral light always on problem (and planning to not try and fix). On a quick ride I tried a little speed shifting (I know, not recommended for GL tranys). The neutral light only comes on in neutral now!

And, on Saturday the Neutral light came back. Went to a car show 33 miles away and it came back on the way home. Still running much better, though!

Discovered a tiny seep of fuel around the petcock. Not enough to drip, but enough to cause the basement to stink like furniture or shoe polish spilled. Randakk kit fixed that up, and I rode it for a 45 mile loop over Norris Dam and another 50 miles to-from Bike Night at the Time Warp Tea Room. Think I will investigate a way to get into the baffles in these Jardine pipe and re-wrap - maybe with SS pot scrubbers. Just too loud to be a GoldWing!

You can buy the stainless wool in rolls specifically for rewrapping exhaust mufflers. I was thinking about DIY’ing my own mufflers at one time... but Harley standard mufflers are like standard Jeep wheels. I.e. available everywhere cheap

I had already purchased a bag of the pot scrubbers a year ago. Small metal wool wold have the same problem that fiberglas has I fear. It will break up and be blown out.

I doubt thes SS pot scrubbers will burn, but even with the pop rivets drilled out, I can't get the baffles to budge. Maybe running and heat/cool cycles?
