Interesting idea using the plenum that way. I love the tips I pick up from this site! Thanks for sharing your experience. crossy.gif

Finally finished with the carbs. Boxed them up for down-the-road. Pulled the fork legs apart, cleaned real good, polished the lowers a bit to get the worst of the oxidation off, polished the tubes, reassembled with new seals. I'll put oil in them when they are remounted.
Root canal tomorrow. Yahoo!

Up to 60 this afternoon, so I rolled the engine outside and gave it a good Gunk, foaming Gunk, and Scrubbing Bubbles cleaning. Still a few spots that will need a bit more, but I think they can be cleaned inside. Tomorrow will be either a ride on the GL1800, or sanding and priming the frame. I really need to take advantage of the weather tomorrow for painting.

Took the frame out back today and hit it with various grinder, flap disk, wire wheels and abrasive wheels. Then wiped it with isopropyl then acetone. Primed with etching primer then painted with Rustoleum appliance epoxy black. Sure looks a lot better, now.

Good work on the frame beautification today. You will be glad you used the nice weather to get that done. Makes the whole project look much better right?

But so much remains! All of those little pieces like shelter frame, battery box, tank (I have yet to clean its outside to see if it needs paint), swingarm, triple trees. But, a big step still. The engine will get brush-painted, so that can be done in the garage with the door open as long as the outside temp is over ~50F. It still needs a little more cleaning before that, but soon! Then the engine and frame need a couple weeks to cure while the other parts get sprayed. During bad weather, I'll be working on making a K&Q seat pan into a stock looking seat. I have the cover, just need to pick up the carpet padding and some fresh 3M 80.

A PO had mounted a '79 tail light, but without the '79 turn signals - just the stalks. And, there's rust in places. So, I cut the "tangs" off and spun inserts on the lathe tapped 10x1.25 - same as a pair of signals that I had left over from previous work. Then used abrasive plastic wheel to remove rust, loose chrome, and rough-up remaining chrome. I taped off the chrome that remains good (most of the visible chrome is Ok) and put it in the pile awaiting weather for painting.

I'll be using POR15 engine paint. Used it on the Hunley and was very pleased.

With the engine on its back for clean/prep/paint, I remembered that I had only removed the exhaust gaskets from the right side. So, I pulled gaskets. And pulled, and pulled. Total three per cylinder.
