Interesting development today. Decided to look at the brakes and since I was already sitting near the rear, I started there. Once I got all the bolts loose, pulled the caliper and there are no pads. Worked my way around to the front ant those pads are mia also. Why would someone do that? Still not able to get the trunk open. Perhaps the threw all the parts in there (wishful thinking). Located some nice parts on a local site. Waiting for a reply from the seller on what all he still has.

That is strange, lol! Maybe they locked up from sitting and someone pulled the pads so they could move it around without constantly dealing with it. Or, maybe it had better pads than another wing they were working on and they got 'borrowed.'

Hopefully pad shims and anti-rattleclips are still there. I agree that most likely the brakes were frozen (caliper or master cylinder issues) and pads removed to permit moving + calipers reinstalled to make it look better/not loose parts.

Just the calipers and nothing else. I'll have to look around for the small pieces.

Just got back from a buying trip. All the plastics, top box, fairing, crash bars, saddle bag mounts, seat, mirrors, passenger pegs and probably some I didn't mention for $40. I think I got a deal.

Maybe they pulled the pads to do some flat tracking? My pal told me his flat track racer had no brakes on purpose.

Been working on the brakes for the a couple of days. Calipers are cleaning up nicely. Rear master was junked up so bad I had to force the piston out with the grease gun. Surprised to not find a spring behind the piston. Need to look at the parts fiche to see the full layout. Front master still needs to come apart. Much to be done.

As you probably know by now the piston does/should have a spring. I don't think I've run across a master cylinder that did not have a spring pushing the piston back out. ;)

No pads, why worry about return springs? Hopefully the calipers and MC will be rebuildable. BTW, the kits have new springs.

Got all the locks sorted today. Have one left to mount on one of the side bags. Nice to know someone that knows locks. Everything works off the same key (at least a dozen locks on this bike).

Pretty good shape cosmetically. Motor is supposedly bad but the rest looks useable. Definitely worth the $100 price tag. Took the windshield off for the trip home. Keys work and title is clear. More assessments to come.

I'm pumped. Original listing was low to begin with or best offer. I offered $120 and he dropped it to $100 on his own. Made it worth the almost 500 mile round trip. He said he was happy to see it go to someone instead of parting it out.I think this one will become the project and let the 81 slip into the doner role. At this rate I'll have several parts left over.
