"Thankfully" I also noticed the front tire is dry-rotted fairly bad. I've got a replacement coming, but I figure the front wheel off is a perfect opportunity to clean up my little paint fun.

Still, it felt good to get it back on the road. And to get back on the road in general.

New tire, new paint, carbs back on, ignition timing set, and test ride completed yesterday. I'd like to get sync gauges on it just for fun. It rides good, but there's just a hint of a slow return to idle.

I've got my eye on the battery. It hasn't wanted to hold a charge, so I may be due for another. I also want to tighten up the steering bearings a smidge. The bike has felt a bit loosey-goosey the last couple times I took it out, and it's definitely not just me. Hopefully I can get at it without taking the entire front end apart.

Did not read your full thread, but Lucien, you did change from the stock ball head bearings to the tapered bearings used from 1977 on? They certainly last longer and are less fussy.

Yeah, I did. Even though I've done three of these bearing replacements, I still second-guess myself on the final settings. It probably won't be nothing major- quarter to a half turn extra on the top nut, see if it makes a difference. The bike doesn't handle badly at all, but it just feels "off" a touch.

Did a quick sync tonight. One carb was just the ever-so-slightest off, so got that locked down.
