Re: 75 GL1000 Project
The Seven Star wheels were the hot item back when mags were in style.
I remember counting the spokes as some Henry Abe wheels like the ones posted here were considered "inferior" because,
well..... six spokes are less than seven and therefor considered weaker.
Whether actually true or not.....That was the buzz at the the track.

I got my brake rotors back from Tom at Truedisk today. He did a top notch job and turn around was less than a week including shipping time.

Re: 75 GL1000 Project
Finally got the frame back from the sand blaster. I put together a temporary paint booth and sprayed some VHT hi gloss epoxy on it. I attached it to an engine stand so I could rotate it.

Looks great! Using the engine stand is a great idea, as well!

You are doing wonderful work. Those rims are magnificent. The rotors are really good too. I love your idea using the engine stand to carry the frame. I am going to steal that one. Your paintwork looks superb. Keep up the good work.

Re: 75 GL1000 Project
The plug wires were stiff and the ends wouldn't stay on so I decided to use GL1100 coils. I make some brackets to relocate the coils so they would clear the stock air horn with out cutting it off. Heres a few pics of them mounted without the shelter frame and with the frame in place. Right side coil is close to the radiator cap but it will come off if i hold my mouth just right.

Re: 75 GL1000 Project
You are doing this quickly and it looks great. I recommend buying Dyna or Magna coils with the Dyna plug wires. I also recommend buying the Dyna S electronic ignition. Getting rid of the points, condencers and the ballast resistor will help the bike start and run better.

Re: 75 GL1000 Project
I’m trying to work on this project at least 2 or 3 hours a day. Sometimes runs into 4 or 5. I’ve dragged my feet on projects in the past and lost interest. At 68 I figure I better keep at it. Seeing progress makes me look forward to each day. I’m pretty much old school when it comes to carburetors and ignition. Keep them clean and adjusted regularly and get many miles of trouble free service.cfairweather wrote: ↑Thu Feb 11, 2021 5:58 pm You are doing this quickly and it looks great. Ok I had another senior moment. I soaked this part in evaporated for a couple days and now I don’t remember where it goes! Help an old fart out here!
