You are doing a beautiful job, such attention to detail! Love the look of that 4 into 1 gauge. I really like to see the progress you are making.

Re: 1975 GL1000
I used a large oil pressure sensor that prevented the standard oil separator from being used so I had to find an alternative. Some of you may want to try this alternative at some point so I decide to take a picture of how I mounted it. It is a very small separator that cost less than $10.00 but it is a very tight fit where I had to put it. Just had to make a simple bracket for it.
I also got the front forks rebuilt. Mounted the handlebars and gauges too.

Re: 1975 GL1000
I have restored many GL1000s over the years, but this is my first custom. There are many challenges that I have encountered with these modifications, but so far I have been able to overcome them.
I finished making a ton of changes to wiring in order to use the mini gauges, the 4-in-1 tank gauge, electric fuel pump, oil pressure sensor, non-standard handlebar switches, etc. I also fabricated mounts for the small fairing and rear fender. I still need to cut part of the original rear fender to hide it. The rear fender is from a Harley V-Rod and I will be using a taillight that has built-in turn signals. The bike currently runs and all electronic components work properly; however, I will obviously need to disassemble a lot of what I have added in order to paint it.

Re: 1975 GL1000
which sensor are you using? I've been toying with the same idea you executed here, just haven't gotten round to it yet... beautiful build so far!cfairweather wrote: ↑Mon Apr 12, 2021 4:15 pm Here is the new Fuel Sensor after I mounted it in the tank. Also, look closely at the picture of the Electric fuel pump after I mounted it on a homemade bracket. This bracket also blocks the manual fuel pump hole. See the small black button hanging off of the engine mount? This button is used to prime the carbs if the bike has been sitting for a while. The fuel pump is wired through a three prong oil switch so if the engine is not running, the fuel pump power is automatically turned off. This is a safety feature. Also notice the yellow wire that runs to an oil pump pressure adapter. This is for the new oil pressure gauge that is shown above.

Re: 1975 GL1000
The 4-in-1 gauge is made by Faria, so I used the Faria Oil and Temp sensors. I bought a fuel tank sensor from EBay that matched the ohms specifications for the gauge.

PS132. Here is a link to a document I wrote about installing an electric fuel pump. I used a different pump on this install.

Re: 1975 GL1000
Wheels, brakes and other small stuff has been installed. The seat and paint are the major steps that still need to be completed.

'Course I like the paint the way it is ... might paint the front fender purple ... or not ...

Re: 1975 GL1000
I finished making the seat pan and have an appointment with a local upholstery shop to add foam and make a custom cover for it. I started with an original pan and cut it in half. I made the rear section out of 1/4" plywood and fiberglass. Paint is next...
