MotoGadget m unit
Has anyone installed a Motogadget M-unit and their switches?
I'm seriously considering installing an m-Unit on my 77 GL1000 as the wiring harness is old, and I need to buy new switches and controls. Also, wondering what you would recommend for the Clutch and front brake reservoir and control?
Wondering how it worked out and was it difficult to wire up. Been watching some videos from Revival Cycle in Auston Texas and other Youtube channels.

Currently wiring up an M.Unit Blue for my 83' 1100. Its... Not as simple as you'd think. If you're going to do a direct replacement using all OEM stuff (Turn signals, neutral light, etc) it makes it pretty easy to install. I have a whole array of stuff from other bikes tacked to mine - so it makes for a real joy to record what goes where and what it does.
The functionality of the M.Unit is absolutely incredible. I'm incredibly happy with the purchase, but installation isn't always as crystal clear as they like to market.

just completed a full m-unit conversion on my sportster and moved the '77 GL to the lift yesterday. 100% would recommend. happy to walk through it with you. the revival videos go over all the basics. there's also a wiring diagram in the m-unit owner's manual and another diagram that goes with the replacement starter relay (which is a revival part)
i bought a hydraulic clutch conversion kit off sunnbobb years ago. not sure if those are even available anymore. as far as the levers i'm using accossato levers but i expect any universal replacement lever with the correct piston size will work. i got a nissin for the harley. not sure what size would be needed of the top of my head.

I plan to upgrade the lights, turn signals to LED. Thank you, I will reach out to you. I have been reading and looking at all the videos and M-Unit information I can find. If you're looking at using the Motogadget gauge (The big half dome one) then look into the "Breakout Box B". I'm excited to hear how it goes for you! I have a polycarbonate carbon fiber 3d printed "Electronics Box" that has mounting holes for the M.Unit, Breakout Box, and a few other things but I can probably modify it to suit your needs. Tucks right up underneath the Faux tank.

in reference to sunnbobb, he's not on here as often as he used to be. he runs the NGW Facebook page.
he does still do the clutch conversions but it's sometimes feast or famine getting some of the components. I don't think he has any available at the moment. but reach out to him & get on the list.
he's also installed an M unit on one of his rides. he highly recommends it and I'm looking into it myself.

Its a part I designed and printed yes. F360 is the way to go design wise - but for any materials outside of PLA an Ender series printer won't be able to print the more demanding materials. An Ender is a great entry into the world of printing though and will teach you the basics and theory. at this point i don't have any plans to run anything besides the PLA through the Ender. thanks for offering to answer my questions, fusion360 is a lot different than tinkercad so i'm sure i will have some! there is one part i might print for my GL build which is some kind of dash light mount. all gauges will be deleted and the triple tree is undrilled so there is no place for dash lights. also there has been some interest in the left side cover - which is also the part i am making for the sportster.
i'll post my previous m-unit install and start taking pics of the '77.

so first get your plan together and think about your materials. you probably want the book for your bike with the wiring diagram, the diagram from the m-unit owner's manual, a multimeter, solder, soldering iron, shrink wrap, ring connectors, your choice of crimp tools cutters and wire strippers, wiring, connectors, and ferrules.
also you can take your wiring diagram and photoshop out all the existing wiring and any other components you plan to delete. then you can draw it back in and use that for your new diagram.

rip out all the old wiring and stuff that you are replacing. make sure you keep your shop clean and don't leave anything on the floor.

figure out where to put the motogadget. on the sportster the only place i could put it is under the seat so i made a fiberglass tray to fit. on the honda it will go behind the left side panel where the other electronics were in the first place.

motogadget is made to use momentary switches. this is a triumph bar that i tapped.

so the rest is time consuming but actually not that hard. the left side of the motogadget is "in"
each switch has 2 leads so one goes to ground and the other goes to the corresponding circuit on the motogadget. each contact point is labeled. the right side of the motogadget is "out" and its the same thing.
anything that runs off of switched 12v power gets connected to the first 3 contacts: neutral, oil, etc.
ignition has a dedicated line as does the starter circuit.
so a turn signal, for example, goes to ground and then to the "out" side on the motogadget using whatever color wire you decided on earlier.
